The imitable Horsebit hardware (or logo, it works both ways) is known as one of Gucci’s signature icons, sealing its position as THE design motif amongst modern favourites like the Dionysus and GG Marmont created by Alessandro Michele. A key reason would be its age of course, one that dates back to 1950s when it first appeared on the leather bags and Gucci loafers of yesteryear. Today, it can be found on the beloved Jordaan moccasins and Princetown slippers, with Michele recently introducing an entire line of bags known as the 1955 Horsebit dedicated to the double ring-and-bar design. The collection first made an appearance back in Cruise 2020, and now expanded to include exciting new silhouettes like the this 1955 Horsebit Medium Tote for Spring-Summer 2020.

On the first impression, you might liken it to a structured bag that could be slightly bulky-looking for some, but if you take a closer look, you will notice that it comes in a relaxed shape that’s perfect for days when you need a carryall that will fit just about anything under the sun. The rounded edges give it a casual appeal as well, rendered in the perfect shade of brown leather that complements beautifully with the beige/ebony GG canvas. Now, the Original GG canvas differs slightly from the GG Supreme, it’s a familiar fabric widely used in the early 2000s now brought back by Alessandro Michele for this collection.

In terms of looks, the Original GG canvas is significantly brighter, coming in an almost golden-like hue when you place it next to the neutral-looking GG Supreme. Today’s focus will be on this tote which measures 35 cm wide and 27 cm high, one that’s completed with double leather handles so you can carry it like a chic tote.
