Balenciaga Classic Nano City

It’s pretty impressive seeing Balenciaga’s Motorcycle bag weather the test of time, proving that age is never an issue for the wonder dreamt up by Nicolas Ghesquière back in the early 2000s. Today, it remains a part of the French house’s bag line-up under Demna, who revived the it-bag in colours and sizes with the modern day woman in mind. A smart way which Demna made it more current was by updating the shoulder strap with extra Balenciaga logos, no doubt a nod to the logo-mania trend that’s all the rage today.

For those who love a little trivia (or perhaps are too young to remember), the term Motorcycle was a broad definition given to the buttery soft leather bags embellished with the signature studs detailing. The studs came in a variety of finishes, from the regular-sized in silver to the chunky gold pieces that came with a lovely textured pattern, as well as several versions in a worn-out treatment. Choices were aplenty, down to the bag silhouettes like the City (a boxier shape) and First (slightly more relaxed-looking with a curved upper) for your choosing. For many, it was the one bag you saved up for months on end before caving in when the bonus finally came in.

Seasonal offerings in pink or navy were crowd-pleasers for sure, but the most popular design would have to be the ones in black leather (crinkled, no less) with gold-tone hardware. You can never go wrong with that combination, plus the fact that if you’re going for just one colour, then black is a definite go-to for sure.

Today, you can find the beloved bag over at Balenciaga, such as the Classic Nano City in a gorgeous Blue currently available at the brand’s online store. Coming in the very same Arena lambskin (in layman’s terms, crinkled) so loved by many, the Nano is the smallest size that measures 19.5 cm wide and 12 cm high. The chic bag is secured with a top zip closure that will house all your essentials safely within, and if you need extra space just turn to the pocket on the exterior that’s good enough for another card or two.

The Classic Nano City even comes with the signature leather-encased mirror for all your touch-ups on the go, finished with an accompanying crossbody strap that has a drop length of approximately 60 cm. The Blue Classic Nano City (SGD1590) can be found over here, but if you fancy colours like Green or the version in White croc-embossed leather, head over to SSENSE and you will find them priced at USD1150 and USD1370 respectively.
