Bottega Veneta Chain Pouch

In a time when most others are opting for the smaller the better, Daniel Lee decided to turn things up a notch (well, several notches in fact) with his Spring-Summer 2020 collection for Bottega Veneta. There were oversized bags like the Arco Slouch and the Maxi BV Jodie (a supersized hobo that’s one for the lovers of all-things Intrecciato leather), along with a fresh new spin on the now iconic Pouch, giving it an oversized square-link chain strap attached at the sides.

To say the Pouch has been a success at the Italian luxury brand is an understatement. Not only was it spotted on celebrities like Rihanna and Rosie Huntington-Whitley, the bag has garnered a considerable number of fans, judging by how fast they were snapped up the moment it landed in physical stores and online last year. The addition of the chain strap offers a new way of carrying the Pouch, by means of slinging over the shoulder or carrying it like a handbag, instead of being just a standard clutch.

The chunky chain adds a bit of visual interest, but it does not outshine the Pouch itself. The lush folds of leather wrapped around a magnetic frame upper are easily identifiable from afar, coming in 6 perfect shades comprising Black, Fondente, Moutarde, Ocra, Orange and Plaster for Spring-Summer 2020. It’s worth mentioning that the Chain Pouch comes in a slightly smaller size measuring 31 cm by 12 cm, which could be a good thing for ladies who wanted a size in-between the original Pouch and the Pouch 20. All 6 colours are paired with the shiny-gold chain, but if you fancy a printed version (which, in all honesty, is a total rarity at Bottega Veneta), there’s one in Zebra which comes with silver-tone hardware.

The Chain Pouch can be pre-ordered online over here, priced at SGD4990 for the solid-coloured options, and goes up to SGD5430 for the one in a Zebra print. All bags are targeted to reach you by April 2020, but you can always wait it out and hit the boutiques once they arrive in Singapore.
