Giorgio Armani la Prima Bag

Think Giorgio Armani and you will picture chic and sharp RTW pieces created for the contemporary and modern woman of today. Then there’s the makeup line that’s loved by women the world over. And aside from being known as the king of immaculate tailoring, Mr Armani had also made his foray into the world of leather goods way back in 1995, pairing them with some of his signature runway looks. The one that started it all? That’s none other than the la Prima (which aptly translates to ‘the first’ in Italian), a design which the Italian luxury house has recently revived and relaunched into an assortment of shapes and sizes across all Giorgio Armani boutiques from December 2019.

The standout piece in the family would have to be the la Prima Small (20 cm by 16 cm) which comes with square-like proportions and pleated corners, now updated to include an adjustable shoulder strap that can be elongated for crossbody wear, or kept short for an over-the-shoulder look. Each bag opens via a magnetic snap closure to three accordion-like pockets, with a card slot, an additional mirror (housed within its own leather pouch), as well as a lipstick case that’s all furnished within.

The Large comes in a tad wider at 26 cm, with everything else (the height, the pockets and the accompanying accessories) remaining exactly the same as its smaller sibling. Back in 1995, La Prima was created with the intention of dressing the woman from day to night, coming in an elegant and understated shape that’s also functional to boot. 24 years on (technically 25 in a month’s time), this notion remains exactly the same, as the la Prima looks set to become the it-bag for Giorgio Armani in the coming seasons.

If, however, you’re all for getting specific bags for specific occasions, Giorgio Armani has included two other versions (la Prima Tote Bag and the la Prima Clutch). And here’s a piece of good news for those of you who are looking forward to try the la Prima on in person, because it will be available over at Club 21’s Fashion Design Style event that’s happening from 12 December at The Shopping Gallery of Hilton Hotel.
