Louis Vuitton: Meet The New Icons

What makes a bag a true classic? Well, for one, it has to come with all the codes of the brand, with a shape and style that’s easily identifiable from afar. Two, it has to come in a timeless silhouette that’s more than just a seasonal trend. In other words, a design that will never truly grow out of style. Now, think about Louis Vuitton and a number of classic designs immediately come to mind. Aside from evergreen favourites like Alma, Keepall and Speedy, the French luxury brand has also been introducing new designs over the years since Nicolas Ghesquière and Virgil Abloh joined the brand in 2013 and 2018 respectively. Several of them have been established as new icons for the simple reason that they all fit the criteria mentioned above, with a modern-looking aesthetic that’s made for the modern woman (or man) of today.

Together, they are integrated within the collage above, and you can go ahead and spot some of your favourite pieces. First up, there’s the Boîte Chapeau, which is essentially Louis Vuitton’s iconic hat box that’s now updated to include four different variations, such as the structured Petite Boîte Chapeau (the original rendered in a handbag style), Mini Boîte Chapeau (an even smaller version which can be cross-bodied or looped around like a bumbag), Boîte Chapeau Souple (known for its relaxed silhouette), as well as the Boîte Chapeau Necklace that’s a lovely accessory/SLG.

Next up would be the Dauphine, which made its debut in the Cruise 2019 show. This one comes furnished with the original metallic lock found in the Sac Dauphine from 1976, but updated with all-new finishes like a beautiful combination of Monogram Canvas/Monogram Reverse, along with an additional chain strap for that cool touch.

It’s pretty obvious the Petite Malle takes inspiration from the Maison’s signature trunks, furnished with an S-lock magnetic closure and leather trimmings all around that make it the perfect little trunk to be carried for the everyday. In fact, it now comes in multiple finishes (Monogram, Epi, Epi Matellic and Vernis, just to name a few) and colours, leaving you truly spoilt for choice. Not forgetting the Twist, an elevated version of the vintage Pochette Trapeze, rendered in a bigger size with added function thanks to the nautical-inspired chains that allow you to wear it easily over the shoulder or cross-bodied. Today, the Twist comes in PM (19 cm by 15 cm) and MM (23 cm by 17 cm), both of which are handy sizes that are great for day and night.

The good news? Most (if not all) of the above can now be shopped online via Louis Vuitton’s Singapore e-commerce site, and once you place your order you can expect your bag (or bags) delivered to you within 24 hours or less. Which certainly beats you heading down to the boutiques yourself and dealing with the weekend queues.
