Moynat: 5 Things To Know About The Gabrielle

It’s not often that you find a muse named after two different designs at a French luxury house, but that’s simply the case for Gabrielle Réjane, a trendsetter of her time who was dramatic and flamboyant on and off the stage, known for her wit and humour that charmed the likes of artists and couturiers in the early 20th century. Her effervescent spirit led Pauline Moynat to create (and name) the Réjane after her, one that was launched in 1903 and revived again in 2011 by the Artistic Director, Ramesh Nair. 5 years later, he created her younger sibling, the Gabrielle, which features a trapezoid-like silhouette that’s finished with a chic and simple M-shaped twist lock closure right in front. Here are 5 things to know about Moynat’s Gabrielle.

01 – First up, the history. The bag was dedicated and named after Gabrielle Réjane’s love of travelling the world as she sought to showcase the artistry of Parisian drama and theatre, and also why the bag comes with bold curves and distinctive stitching at the base that’s reminiscent of Moynat’s iconic Limousine Trunk. Today, the Gabrielle is created by a Moynat artisan who pieces together the entire bag from start to finish, constructed using Carat calfskin exterior and finished with a Perle calfskin lining for a full leather piece in and out, with the icing on the cake being its ability to stay lightweight in nature.

02 – Next, the size. The Gabrielle comes in 3 sizes, BB (20 cm by 15 cm), PM (26 cm by 18 cm) and MM (31 cm by 21 cm), so there’s definitely something for everyone, along with a relatively new silhouette known as the Gabrielle Clutch that’s definitively shorter and more compact, measuring 25.5 cm by 16 cm with a depth of just 4 cm.

03 – All the bags come with a structured top handle and detachable leather strap, making them versatile pieces that offer different options of carrying. While the Gabrielle bags are geared for the day, the Gabrielle Clutch is best suited for your evening soirées, especially when it comes in a sleeker silhouette.

04 – The Gabrielle family of bags is available in permanent colours like Black and Tourterelle, with the BB and PM sizes offered in an additional hue known as Powder. Keep an eye out for seasonal variations like Coral and Eggplant, as well as bi-coloured combinations like Peach-Powder and Zinc-Lagoon, all of which are now available for your perusal at the Moynat boutiques at Marina Bay Sands or Takashimaya Shopping Centre. For Fall-Winter 2019, new shades await you, such as Flamingo (bright orange), Storm (deep blue) and a bi-coloured Flamingo-Ciment that will arrive in September 2019.

05 – Last, but by no means least, the prices. For easy reference, each size will come with two figures, denoting the prices for palladium and gold hardware respectively. The BB is priced at SGD5900/SGD6250, the PM at SGD6200/SGD6600, and the MM at SGD7300/SGD7600, while the Gabrielle Clutch that’s only available in palladium hardware is priced at SGD5600.
