In case you haven’t already realised, there is a new J12 at Chanel, one that has been given an update after 19 years. An icon of the French luxury house since it was launched in 2000, this reissue is sleek and sophisticated with an emphasis on sexy, with light dancing off those polished curved ceramic links just adding to its allure even more. Without further ado, here are 5 things to know about #TheNewJ12.

– One major change includes the all-new Manufacture Calibre 12.1 self-winding movement by Kenissi that’s manufactured exclusively for Chanel. Kenissi (Chanel has a 20% stake in the company) is renowned for its range of robust and high performance calibers and you can be assured the same quality is found in the new J12.

 – The timepiece now comes with a 70-hour power reserve, compared to 42 hours in the previous versions, as well as a sapphire caseback that displays the movement in all its glory.

 – The bracelet has been subtly modified with flatter and longer ceramic links that will wrap comfortably around the wrist. Other updates include slimmer Arabic hour numerals which now come in full ceramic, as well as dimensional adjustments to the hour and minute hands in terms of width and luminescent areas, all of which seek to enhance readability on the dial.

– Contrary to popular belief, the J12 is in fact a timepiece that’s made for both men and women, one that was designed by Jacques Helleu (then artistic director of the House) in 2000. He wanted a timeless watch that was sporty-looking (inspired by the world of automobiles and sailing), but most importantly, it had to be a contemporary timepiece that he would wear himself.

– #TheNewJ12 is now available in 4 different variations. The 38 mm in either black or white ceramic, as well as the 38 mm in black and white ceramic that comes with 12 diamond indicators in place of numerals, all of which are available at Chanel’s Watches & Fine Jewellery boutique at Takashimaya Shopping Centre.
