Rimowa x Daniel Arsham Eroded Attaché

No stranger to collaborations, Rimowa has teamed up with big name street labels like Off-White and Supreme, as well as famed multimedia artist Alex Israel in a limited pop-up back in February. This May, you can look forward to the limited-edition Rimowa x Daniel Arsham Eroded Attaché, one that’s inspired by a vintage suitcase taken from the luggage maker’s archives. What can you expect? Well, for one, the cool aluminium attaché comes with its own handling glove and a die cut foam interior that houses an ‘eroded suitcase’ artwork (yes, that brick-like deconstructed object) within.

Two, the interior is furnished with a special Arsham Studio label that describes the material and year of production, something that’s unique to this particular series and will never be found in classic Rimowa pieces. Three, the exterior comes with subtle tweaks like the RIMOWA logo with a double ‘A’ at the end that’s a nod to Daniel Arsham’s studio logo. The unique ‘eroded suitcase’ artwork can always be kept at home while you use the aluminium Classic Attaché on its own like a cool briefcase, if you so please.

You’re not just buying a suitcase. You’re buying a work of art. Specifically Daniel Arsham’s eroding artefact that’s reminiscent of his works in the Future Relic series where everyday objects are reinterpreted into archaeological discoveries in the future, dystopian world. You’re also buying into exclusivity, as there are only 500 pieces available for sale worldwide, each numbered and signed.

Now, if you’re all for something truly exclusive, the Rimowa x Daniel Arsham Special Edition (numbered 008/500) is currently up on Sotheby’s, where you can bid online for it. Just a note though, the current bid stands at a whopping USD15,000, but only because this set will come with exclusive items like a signed drawing of the artwork, a letter from Daniel Arsham himself, as well as a special-edition sticker set that includes a cool reinterpretation of the traditional Rimowa man.

Set to launch from 17 May 2019, the remaining 499 pieces of the RIMOWA x Daniel Arsham Eroded Attaché are priced at USD2200 each, available at selected Rimowa stores worldwide. Singapore isn’t one of them, but your next best option would be Hong Kong, where you can try and get your hands on this exclusive work of art.
