The time has come for you to shop Virgil Abloh’s debut #LVMENSS19 collection that’s now available in Singapore. RTW and accessories aside, the bags in particular are given his signature twist, also known as the 3% ‘golden rule’, that sees archives and current bags alike given a modern update.
And in the case of this all-new line, the Monogram Solar Ray is essentially Monogram Macassar given an update, with the addition of that dash of orange (in the form of an extra resin chain or hardware elements on the bag itself) that also speaks of Virgil’s streetwear roots.
Starting with the Pochette Volga (SGD1920), a fuss-free pouch that’s furnished with an orange resin chain in front. Also attached to the zip pocket in front, it opens to a small compartment for your quick access cards and the like. Measuring 23 cm by 11.5 cm, the bag’s main compartment is equipped with several card slots and is roomy enough for your daily essentials like a wallet and pocket charger.
The Utility Side Bag (SGD2780), on the other hand, is meant to be worn close to the body and is also furnished with an adjustable shoulder strap that can be worn on across the body or over the shoulder, even around the waist as a bum bag. Or remove all the straps and use it as a clutch, because at 24 cm by 16 cm, it is the perfect size.
Next up are the bigger bags that definitely pack a punch. The Soft Trunk (SGD4850) pays homage to the French luxury house’s roots as a luxury trunk maker. Featuring metallic corners taken from the archives, the boxy trunk-like bag is rendered in a supple canvas that makes it perfect for the everyday. Finished with a matte resin chain and leather strap, the 25 cm by 17.5 cm bag is large enough to fit all you need on a good day out.
Then there’s the Steamer PM (SGD5200), a silhouette that was designed way back in 1901, resized into a cool top handle day bag that also works as a messenger worn across the body. Paired with a cool contrasting resin chain as well as several metallic hardware elements, the Steamer PM measures 38 cm by 39 cm, and is also available in a bigger MM size (46 cm by 48 cm) that’s priced at SGD5550.
Lastly, there’s the Keepall Bandoliere 50 (SGD5200), the quintessential bag for the man who loves to carry anything and everything. Measuring 50 cm by 39 cm, Virgil Abloh dresses the iconic Keepall with several interesting twists, including metallic hardware elements on the handles for an industrial touch, while updating the shoulder strap into one that comes in a mix of of a matte black chain with a leather shoulder patch. That orange detail? It gives it that perfect pop of colour.
