Celine Classic Bag

While Celine has introduced all-new silhouettes like the 16 and Triomphe under Hedi Slimane, know that the Classic Bag (which was launched during Phoebe Philo’s tenure) is here to stay. It’s called the ‘classic’ for a reason, an ultra-chic silhouette that transcends seasons and trends. In an era where loud logos and graphic monograms are de rigueur, this one comes without any on the exterior. All it does is let its exquisite leather shine through, contrasted beautifully with the unmistakable brass hardware clasp closure.

Many call it the ‘box bag’ as well, but that actually refers to the fact that some pieces come in Box Calfskin, rather than a nod to its boxy shape. A smooth leather that develops a patina over time, it leaves a glossy sheen that looks even better with use. Being the most popular choice of leather for the Classic Bag, you can find colours like Amazon, Anthracite, Black, Burgundy, Camel, Linen and Red for pieces that come in this leather.

There are other choices of leather, such as Natural Calfskin which comes in a gorgeous Tan, as well as a grained finish known as Calfskin Liégé that comes in Dark Indigo. And of course the exotics, like crocodile and lizard which are priced upward of SGD10,300.

Size-wise, there are just two that are available now. Starting with Small (SGD4350) that measures 16 cm across and 13 cm high, with a depth of 7 cm, the next size up is Medium (SGD5600), which comes in a tad wider and higher at 24 cm by 18 cm. Apart from the quality leather used on the exterior, each bag also comes with a lambskin leather lining and is armed with an inner zipped pocket to keep your essentials neatly organised. Both sizes come with an adjustable leather strap that will allow you to carry it effortlessly over the shoulder or across the body.

Classic then, classic now, classic forever. Definitely the most fitting homage to this elegant bag.
