On first look, this cut-out tote might remind you of the retro PVC versions you would have seen in local markets back in the day. Take a closer look, however, and you will realise that the bag above isn’t plastic, but one that’s made out of calfskin leather, a rather interesting piece from Hereu that’s known as the Colmado Cut-Out Leather Tote.

Each Colmado bag, as well as all the other leather goods under the label found by design duo José Luis Bartolomé and Albert Escribano are handcrafted by local artisans in Spain. It’s a testament to the label’s commitment to engage with the local craftsmen who come together with the design team to create accessories using traditional techniques that are beautiful yet modern.

And that’s not all. Besides being a beauty, it is also one that’s truly functional. You could use the bag as it is and have that whole see-through look going, or you can simply attach the large canvas cotton zip pouch that it comes with to keep everything within safer and out of sight.  You can carry via its top handles, or strap on the removable sling to carry it over the shoulder. Either way, it works.
