Loewe Gate Bag

It’s a bit of a surprise that Loewe’s Gate Bag hasn’t gotten an in-depth post over on the blog, which is why it will be a given a thorough run-through in this post all about this saddle-shaped bag.

First up, what’s behind the name?  There’s a latched metallic pin with a dangling leather strip at the side of the bag, which, along with the knotted front belt, are two elements that would remind one of a gate. Opening the bag is easy – you simply lift the front flap from the belt and you’ll find an interior that’s compartmentalised with a dividing slot perfect for organisation.

Then there’s just how versatile a piece it is. You could carry it one of many ways, from slinging it over the shoulder, to wear it across the body or even slide your hand through the knotted bow and hold it like a clutch. A timeless piece that’s simple and easy to wear and perfect for both genders, this would explain why the Gate Bag has become such a signature piece for Loewe in such a short span of time.

Available in two sizes, the standard Gate Bag measures 27 cm by 26 cm while the Gate Small Bag comes in at 20 cm by 19 cm, with a wide array of colour combinations to choose from. Choose between the single-coloured options like Midnight Blue or Rust, or take it up a notch with the bi-coloured versions like Black/Pecan. And if you’re bold enough, go for the tri-coloured (Black/Blue/Red) option or the rainbow-patterned one that’s truly made for the eclectic individual.

Prices differ across the board depending on the choice of materials, starting with the Small Gate Bag in felt/smooth calfskin priced at SGD2490 right up to the larger Gate Bag in full soft calfskin that’s priced at SGD4450. Available at Loewe boutiques islandwide (Marina Bay Sands, Paragon Shopping Centre and Takashimaya Shopping Centre), you could also hit this link to see everything available online first. And if you’re eyeing the one in the pic above, that’s the new Mini Gate Bag that will be released in the coming months, but that’s also a post for another day.
