The long-awaited return of Dior’s iconic Saddle Bag is finally here, but before you run down screaming to the nearest Dior boutique, here are some things you should know about this little wonder that’s set to become the French luxury house’s newest IT bag. Created by John Galliano during his days as CD, the Saddle Bag made its debut at the Spring-Summer 2000 runway show and gained immense popularity after SJP carried multiple variations of it during the run of Sex and the City.

Inspired by the equestrian world, specifically the shape of a horse’s saddle as seen from the side that comes decorated with an extra ‘D’ buckle (D for Dior, of course), the new Saddle Bag looks similar to the original bag created back in 1999 but with a few differences. For one, the velcro tabs are gone (yes, some of the bags back then came with velcro release tabs) and replaced with magnetic clasp tabs. The shape, along with the hardware, is also more refined as compared to the bulk of the older variations.

And with 3 different variations available this season as far as the Saddle Bag is concerned, one will definitely be spoilt for choice. First up (and everyone’s favourite) are the ones in Dior Oblique canvas. Available in 2 sizes, the Mini Saddle Bag (SGD3300) measures 19.5 cm by 16 cm, while the regular Saddle Bag (SGD4100) stands at 25.5 cm by 20 cm.

Then there’s the full smooth calfskin bags that also come in 2 sizes. Priced at SGD3700 and SGD4600 respectively for both sizes, you’ll find in Black, Rose Noisette (a delicate pink) and Red. And if you really want to go all out with really intricate pieces, there is the patchwork Saddle Bag that is priced at SGD8500, or the beaded fringed Mini Saddle Bag that will set you back by SGD8300, both of which are very much in line with the aesthetic of current CD Maria Grazia Chiuri.

To be worn over the shoulder, you could also ‘extend’ the Saddle Bag by adding a sling strap that will be sold separately. Choose from between the Dior Oblique embroidered canvas strap (SGD2350) in Blue, Brown, Burgundy or Green, or the embroidered canvas strap with extra fringe detail (SGD2750), all of which will be available when you head down to the Dior boutique. Yes, folks, the Saddle Bag is now officially available in Singapore, so if you end up taking an extra long lunch hour tomorrow, we’ll definitely know why. #happyshopping
