Not to be confused with the patterned fabric (lace), Laced in the context of Loewe is one that stands for the interweaving of laces, more specifically, leather laces. And in this new collection for Fall-Winter 2017, this most interesting of detailing has made its way onto some of the Spanish leather label’s most iconic of bags, including the Barcelona, Hammock and Puzzle, just to name a few.
Employing a unique braiding needlework that’s worked into calfskin leather which just goes to show the level of Loewe’s expert craftsmanship, each lace is interwoven to utmost precision and perfection on the bags. In the Barcelona (SGD3150), for example, the lacing technique is seen woven down diagonally over the front and back in bi-tonal calfskin, giving a fresh take to the humble 19 cm by 12 cm box bag. Next, we see the Hammock (SGD4650) getting its very own lace work, with the needlework going down the seams and internal panels, and even on its contrasting coloured strap that’s certainly eye catching.

Moving on, there’s Loewe’s very first bag designed by Creative Director, Jonathan Anderson. The Puzzle (SGD4250) gets its own laced up version as well, one with leather laces sewn through its seams, cuts, and top handle. Even with the addition of the laced detailing, the bag manages to fold flat from its 29 cm by 19.5 cm body. And if you find these classic models too ‘conventional’, how about the Elephant Mini Bag (SGD2290) which gets its own laced iteration as well?
While prices are a notch higher than its classic versions, the laced additions only amplify and celebrate Loewe’s expert handwork, one that you can watch the ‘Making Of‘ on Loewe’s website, as the Loewe artisan carefully pieces the Hammock together in utmost perfection. And after you’re done, head down to the Loewe boutiques at Marina Bay Sands, Ngee Ann City and Paragon where the bags are available now.
