Decidedly more ‘street’ than anything else was Burberry’s September 2017 collection, with a total of 74 looks for men and women sent down the runway at Old Sessions House. And with oversized tartan checks being the mainstay of the collection, with Christopher Bailey calling it ‘A little more honest, a little less polished’, there were plaid baseball caps aplenty, alongside hooded anoraks, ugly ‘Dad’ blazers, trench coats and track pants, with most covered in, you guessed it, checks.
And with most of the collection already available online (See Now, Buy Now, remember?), there is one bag that I’m completely enamoured over. Known as the Giant Reversible Tote in Tartan Cotton, the 69 cm by 42 cm by 24 cm monster of bag is, in a word, love. Having had the privilege to play with (and shoot) it weeks before today, I can tell you this. It is large, it is lightweight, it is reversible, it is roomy. In short, it’s just perfect if you like your bags oversized and slouchy.
Composed of 100% bonded cotton (for durability and strength) that’s trimmed with calfskin, they come in an endless array of colour combinations, with the 3 just above the tip of iceberg. Priced from SGD2895 which isn’t so bad considering how much bag you get, I’m just having a really hard time deciding which colour(s) to go for, especially since you can get them within 2 to 4 working days if you order now. In other words, excuse me for now, it is time to shop. Or head down to Burberry ION Orchard where some of the bags (along with RTW, shoes and accessories for both men and women) are now available.
