Combing our great love of both monograms and raffia bags is this 2017 limited edition ode to summer, Goyard’s new Aligre tote bag. Inspired by chic string shoppers French women would carry out when they went grocery shopping, the Aligre is, in a nutshell, one of the most unique Goyard bags I’ve seen in a long, long while.
With the raffia mesh hand-plaited over a pair of beech wood rods that’s also responsible for providing the tote’s structure, a Goyardine coated-canvas flap pouch is then added onto the frame, providing a secure space for small essentials that might otherwise slip out of the mesh. Use it as a beach bag, use it as grocery tote; you could even use it as you go about your business up and down Orchard Road and have heads turning to check out your quirky one-off piece.
The bad news? It is a limited edition offering that will only be sold via Goyard boutiques in Paris and Biarritz, so if anyone is heading up to the city of love anytime soon, do let me know.
