Cult Gaia Ark Bamboo Handbag

I’ve been seeing this float around Instagram for a while now, and for the longest time I couldn’t decide if it was a yay or a nay. At first glance it does look like an elaborate fish trap, the kind you place in the river overnight and come back the next day to see if it snared anything. On the other hand, there was something about the beautifully symmetrical shape that’s also very architectural that I was very fond of. Still, I wasn’t sold, and it sat in my ‘maybe’ box for the longest time.

All that changed when I spotted it on a Japanese lady in Tokyo, of all places, who like most Japanese women was fashionably chic in her long slip dress, a pair of two-toned Chanel pumps and this, Cult Gaia’s Ark Natural Bamboo Handbag hanging from her left hand. First thought? How good it looked in real life. Second thought? That although it’s made to look see-through, I couldn’t exactly make out what was actually inside her bag, which can only be a good thing.

Priced at USD128 for the Small and USD138 for the Large, you can buy it online via Cult Gaia where shipping is another USD48 for the bag to be shipped via DHL within 5 days. Not bad for a head-turner that will set you back by about SGD245 that you can use almost anywhere as far as our sunny shores are concerned. But if you’re keen but still not 100% convinced, I took the plunge and ordered one. So stay tuned to Instagram to see how it turns out once it arrives.

Update: 30 May 2017
It smells heavenly. Yes, that’s the first thought that popped into my mind when I opened the box, and sitting inside was the Ark Bamboo Handbag from Cult Gaia. Bought the smaller one, but it was still roomier than I expected, and if you were to check out this Instagram pic I just posted, you’ll see why. Book, compact wallet, keys, lippie, sunnies, no problem at all. And for those worried about things slipping out, they won’t. It is pretty good at ‘hiding’ your personals even though they are see-through slots all over the bags.

Made from bamboo and inspired by a vintage bag from Japan, the workmanship is pretty decent too, and for those who think they can just use ice-cream sticks and make their own (yes, there was such a comment on IG), you can’t. And you can trust me on that. Lastly, if anyone wants this bag (yes, I’m giving it away), just head to the IG and take part now. #goodluck
