Louis Vuitton Petite Malle iTrunk Collection

Known as the Petite Malle iPhone case, or the iTrunk, these have to be the most talked about iPhones this season yet, after Louis Vuitton’s Nicolas Ghesquière first teased social media with a shot of him using the case before they were seen coming down the runway during LV’s Spring-Summer 2017 runway presentation in Paris.

The most talked about bit regarding the cases isn’t whether we all want one, or which combination should we get, rather, it’s the selling price, which in Singapore is almost the same as getting a new iPhone7 without contract. Yes, folks, the cases retail for SGD1600 and SGD1710 for the iPhone7 (which also  fit the iPhone6Plus, by the way) and iPhone7Plus cases respectively, which even for me isn’t exactly chump change.

And while I can tell you why you shouldn’t get one (it’s much too expensive, and isn’t a new iPhone supposed to be released this year as well), these are still the only two reasons against. The list of reasons for, however, is much longer.

Besides the fact that they are beautifully crafted, each made to resemble a vertical Petite Malle (oh, how cute is that), it’s also rather hefty, a solid piece of Italian craftsmanship that isn’t flimsy or likely to fall apart in days. Made up of two parts, you take the case apart at the ‘lock’ (see the seam on the pieces shown above?), which you then proceed to slide your phone into, before snapping them together in a beautiful click.

Yes, the sound it makes, it’s a beautiful click, one that will be strangely reassuring despite the fact that you’ll be eating bread for the next 3 months. But no matter, because besides being a beautiful case, it’s also destined to be a collectible that no die-hard fan of Louis Vuitton should be without. Available in Monogram Canvas, Monogram Eclipse and Monogram Reverse for the basic models, I hear there are others (which will retail at higher prices) will include those in Epi as well as exotic skins.

If you aren’t convinced (and I don’t blame you), head down to any Louis Vuitton in Singapore and kindly request to see one. Yes, actual pieces are already available locally, and while you might not be able to walk out with one immediately, you could put yourself down on the waitlist and be allotted one as soon as more stocks prevail.

I want to purchase this iPhone6 from LV.

You can do so by buying directly from Louis Vuitton boutiques around the world. I don’t sell anything on this site. Cheers.

Hi Alvin, I’m deliberating between a Petite Malle and the Camera box bag – both very small bags. Do you think a guy can rock these two bags? If yes, which of the two should I get?

Hmm, honestly, I’ve tried both out and while the Camera Bag is cute, I would much prefer you spend your money on the Petite Malle, it’s a classic-in-the-making that will never go out of style.
