L/Uniform Carry-On Suitcase No. 40

‘At 35,000 feet, it will transport you back to the 1950s when flight attendants were 30 years old and single.’ And that’s how L/Uniform, a French bag maker describes its Carry-On Suitcase No. 40, a stunningly simple suitcase that’s mostly woven canvas in linen and cotton and trimmed with milled calfskin from Catalonia. And I’ll be frank here. Looking remarkably like something that Hermès will make and sell on the best of days, it’s no wonder that this under-the-radar brand is available only at the likes of Dover Street Market in London, New York and Tokyo and Colette in Paris.

Measuring some 44 cm across by 35 cm, it’s as big on function on the inside as it is on form on the out. Sporting a duo of snap pouches on one side that are also removable and great for all manner of toiletries, the other side sports a double-flap compartment that’s great for storing your folded clothes within. And that’s not all. The suitcase will also come with a removable sling, a padlock (with keys, of course), a luggage tag and a price tag that will not break your bank at EUR1150, or around SGD1800 after conversion.

Besides the option that you see above, you can also choose, before checking out online, the colour of your leather trim (Black, Brown, Khaki or Navy) as well as the option of monogramming up to 3 letters on your suitcase. Orders take up to 6 weeks to process, and L/Uniform will ship to most of the world via UPS Saver.

But that’s not all L/Uniform sells. Have a look around their online e-shop and you’ll find everything from duffles to school bags to backpacks and even small leather goods, from clutches to wallets. All affordably priced, all which allow personalisation and perhaps most importantly, looking exactly like what your typically hip Parisian boy (or girl) would carry in this day and age.
