Because Seoul’s the new Shanghai, French luxury house Dior has found it fitting to open the House of Dior in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu. Spread over 6 levels with a Dior cafe operated by Pierre Herme on the 5th floor (because shopping can be such hard work), it’s also a very special space where you’ll be able to experience the universe of Dior at one go, from Dior Homme located in the basement to levels 1 through 3 holding everything you’ll ever need from bags and accessories to jewellery and watches and of course, RTW and shoes.
Designed by French architect Christian de Portzamparc, the building alone is a joy to marvel, with its beautifully curved exterior walls that look like Raf’s couture creations anchored within a gleaming steel box that’s etched with Dior’s iconic Cannage quilt, the perfect blend of the luxury house’s past and present. That alone would be worth a visit in my personal opinion.
But if shopping is on your agenda while you’re in Seoul, Dior will also be launching a series of limited edition exclusives that will only be available at the House Of Dior, including 4 specially commissioned Lady Dior bags each designed with the building’s unique architecture in mind, custom jewellery pieces (think gorgeous cuffs and rings finished in gold) and an adorable plexiglas brass charm that comes in the shape of a tiger that’s too cute for words.
Open to the public from 20 June 2015, don’t forget to add this landmark to your list the next time you’re in South Korea doing some Seoul-searching.
