The one bag that jumped at me the moment it hit the runway during Gucci’s S/S15 runway presentation in Milan last year was this, the Lady Web that’s the perfect blend of retro-cool and monogram-chic. Available in a wide variety of finishes and sizes, the Lady Web at its very basic is the one that comes swathed in the Italian house’s iconic GG monogram fabric, that’s then trimmed with burnished leather for the rich vintage finish.
The cherry on the top? The thick webbing strap that comes striped green-red-green for a look that was so Gucci way back then and something I’m glad they are bringing back for this day and age.
Besides the ones that come in GG monogram, you’ll also find the Lady Web in a glorious selection of materials, from brown hand-stained leather to thick brushed suede, that come in retro-hues like Brick Red. And then there are the ones that come in exotic skins, from light beige python to deep brown crocodile, that are truly mouth-watering.
As far as sizes go, there are two, a Small that comes in at around 22 cm by 15 cm, and a Medium that measures 25 cm by 19 cm, both of which are perfect for that oh-so-casually-slung-over-the-shoulder look. Prices are reasonable too, kicking off at SGD2260 for the tiny wonder in GG monogram fabric all the way to SGD27,630 for the beauty in exotic croc. Everything else veers between SGD2900 and SGD3400 (the Medium in leather or suede), which really ain’t exorbitant as far as I’m concerned.
For those of you eyeing the larger ones in Medium, there’s an added treat as well. Sold with not 1 but 2 straps, you will be getting one in leather and another in thick fabric web so that you can mix it up as and when you feel like it.
Before I sign off (and before you start the pondering if this is the bag for you), here’s a cool Gucci-commissioned video featuring singer Lykke Li (and her song Just Like a Dream) capturing her creative process whilst of course using the Lady Web. #ladyweb
