In case you’ve haven’t heard, Frida Giannini’s tenure as Gucci’s Creative Director will be coming to an end, and with rumours like Joseph Altuzarra and Riccardo Tisci taking over swirling around, another round of designer musical chairs looks set for early 2015. But for those who don’t care, or don’t give a hoot about who the designer is so long as the item you’re buying is aesthetically-pleasing, in your price range and works beautifully for your needs, may I present the new Icon leather wallets from Gucci.
Part of the Italian’s house’s overhaul of everything bags and SLGs as far as I can tell, a huge majority of these leather pieces have been pared down to the barest of essentials with nary a monogram in sight. Instead, you get cleanly-finished bags (and SLGs), often with a single piece of hardware which is pretty much it.
Take the Icon pieces, for instance. Made of fine smooth calfskin, it’s as straightforward as it gets, the only bling coming from the retro-vibed interlocking-G detail that’s also part of the wallet’s clasp. Available in two variations (with leather sling which allows you to wear it across the body, or just as a long wallet sans sling), it’s actually more exciting on the inside, with a zip compartment for coins as well as countless (ok, maybe just 10) slots for all manner of cards.
Priced at SGD930 and SGD1080 for just the wallet and the wallet with sling respectively, you’ll find them locally now in luscious colours like Coral, Light Yellow, Lilac and Rose Beige. Also Black, for those more unadventurous amongst you.
