Described as urban chic sportswear, you would have seen most of the look book images from the upcoming H&M + Alexander Wang collaboration collection by now, most of which have been deemed too boring and safe by keyboard critics. Which frankly isn’t untrue if you were expecting the crazy that was the Versace collab, the avant-garde that was Margiela or even the lushness that was Lanvin.
The thing is, they have all been done before. So why repeat, right? Made up of everything sportswear-related and a few pieces worthy of traipsing the streets in, the colour palette is true to the ethos of Alexander Wang, where everything is black, grey and white.
And because it would be easier to just mention the pieces that I actually like (too many pieces are rather tramp-stampy, if you know what I mean), here goes. As far as the sweatshirts are concerned (full length for the boys, cropped for the girls), they are a go, slightly boxy with Wang ’embossed’ across the chest. Priced at SGD99.90, do note that the ones that come in black are more neoprene-y, while the ones in grey come in some cotton-like fabric.
Also worthy if you are heading to the North Pole permanently is the parka (SGD399), windbreaker (SGD299), leather jacket (SGD549) and down jacket (SGD599), all of which are boxy and heavy and good only for cold climates. Then there is the hoodie (SGD119) that would do well here with the young ones, even if it is scorching outside.
The backpacks ain’t bad either, though a tad pricey at SGD249 and SGD349 respectively for the ones that come in mesh and leather. Other bits and bobs include the boxing gloves (SGD99.90), a yoga mat (SGD119), a set of two towels that come in their own mesh drawstring bag (SGD59.90) and a water bottle (SGD19.90). There are also sneakers for the boys (SGD249) that isn’t bad to various shoes and sneakers (SGD299 to SGD399) which are quite dominatrix-chic, and a pair of slippers/sliders (SGD139) that everyone I know seems to want.
