Dior Homme: Of Polka Dots And The Lily Of The Valley

dior_homme_fw14-mens Having the chance to see the Fall-Winter 2014 Mens Dior Homme collection up-close twice, once in Kuala Lumpur for the press presentation last month and the second time recently at the new Dior Homme boutique that just reopened on a new floor within The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, here’s my as-simple-as-it-gets rundown. As far as the F/W14 collection is concerned, there are only 2 things to be extremely excited over, namely polka dots, and anything Lily of the Valley.

So how did polka dots end up on Kris Van Assche’s collection for Dior Homme? An interest it seems in the juxtaposing of the masculine and the feminine, the use of fabrics traditionally used in mens tailoring embroidered with polka dots (something he adapted from the world of haute couture). Yes, the dots are just printed on pieces like the shoes (shown above), but for the RTW, as well as pieces like the document holder and leather portfolio, the dots are first embroidered onto the leather before they are made into bags.

As for the Lily of the Valley, it was Monsieur Christian Dior’s lucky bloom, and as a tribute to the legendary founder, you’ll be seeing lots of pieces with the motif, from it represented in the form of a palladium-plated lapel pin to it being embroidered onto jackets. You’ll also find it on ties, sweatshirts and so on, be it in the form of knits, patterns or prints.

Don’t take my word for it, just head on down to the new Dior Homme boutique at MBS, currently Asia-Pacific’s largest that’s totally devoted to the man of Dior, from a ‘shoe closet’ that’s the stuff of dreams for any shoe aficionado to private dressing rooms that most everyone will want to take OOTDs in.
