20 days. That’s how long you will have to wait till you can get yourself some Loewe from Jonathan Anderson’s debut capsule collection, which was unveiled in Paris on 27 June. And on 17 July, invited guests will be able to preview and purchase most everything at the Loewe boutique in Marina Bay Sands, joining Hong Kong as the only other country in Asia-Pacific for the worldwide launch.
Which is mind-boggling, because this move pips even the current king of instant gratification Burberry and the 8-week wait for their ‘Runway Made To Order‘ (RMTO) service. But because there’s no point selling something even more quickly than the next guy if it isn’t any good to begin with, I’ve got good news.
Having spent time in Loewe’s archives, Jonathan Anderson has reimagined a new Loewe that’s new, yet old, all at once. Embracing what he loved from the Spanish house that’s well-versed in the art of leather, the Amazona is now softened with edges made rounder, the Flamenco, robust and hardy with thick leather looped tassels.
Then there are new bags, from the statement-making Shopper Bag, to my personal favourite of the moment, the Anton Backpack. And trust me when I say this, the pics online don’t do justice to how beautiful this bag is in real life; it’s something that really needs to be savoured in person, from the way the bag hangs ever so nonchalantly from your shoulder to its soft gentle folds, the placement of its every stitch perfectly executed.
Which brings us to Loewe unveiling the new capsule collection next Friday at Marina Bay Sands, where besides the bags (which you can already preview online now for both men and women), you’ll also be able to get up-close and personal with the SLGs, from zip wallets to coin purses. There are also bag charms and accessories that come with Meccano flourishes, a toy Jonathan himself played with when he was a wee lad and perhaps included to signify himself taking the creative reins at Loewe and the youthful renewal of this revered luxury house.
In the coming week, I’ll be featuring more from this capsule collection over on Instagram, leading up to the by-invite-only launch on 17 July before it’s open for sale to the general public from 18 July onwards. And if you would like to join me on Thursday night for a closer look (or have any other questions regarding the pieces in this collection), drop me an email or leave a comment or two over on Facebook or Instagram.
