There are the luxury houses everyone knows, and then there are the ones that are slightly under the radar and a tad obscure. Take Delvaux for instance, ‘the oldest fine leather luxury house in the world’ (their words, not mine) established in Brussels by Charles Delvaux in 1829.
With the exception of having its own boutiques within Belgium, you’ll find Delvaux in established retail emporiums and hip multi-label enclaves scattered around the world, from Barneys in the US to 10 Corso Como in Shanghai.
Known mostly for their fine leather bags that haven’t been changed in a hundred years, you’ll also find new styles amongst its revered line-up today, from the boxy Le Madame to the sportier Le Louise. My personal pick for the day, however, has got to be the Delvaux Brillant Mini Box, an older style that still looks fresh and fun for today.
Available in a few sizes, the Brillant Mini is the smallest of the lot, measuring just 19 cm across by 16.5 cm. Made available with its own shoulder sling that’s also removable, the most distinctive features about the Brillant have got to be her high arced top handle and the front buckle clasp that sort of resembles a protruded tongue. Cheeky, if you ask me.
Priced at around USD3600, you’ll find some online via Barneys. Closer to home, check out Lane Crawford which currently stocks a few styles online. And if you need more help hunting one down for yourself, drop me an email and I’ll see what else I can do to help you out.
