The words ‘quietly unassuming’ instantly came to mind when I first laid eyes on this S/S14 bag from Spanish house Loewe. Known as the Montera Tote (which either references the montera, the hat worn by matadors during bullfights or a street in Madrid that’s well-known for its nocturnal activities), the 36 cm by 35 cm grained calfskin leather tote is as straight-forward and as no-nonsense as it gets where work bags are concerned, simply styled with a front flap and handles that look long enough to sit over the shoulder with ease.
The kind of bag that you can use today or today 10 years from now (because it’s such a timeless design to begin with), you’ll find that it comes unlined because like most everything Loewe crafts, the leather is good both inside and out. In other words, the interior will stand up to wear and tear well, and as an added bonus, you’ll also find an interior pocket located within.
Now for the bad news. The Montera Tote won’t be available in Singapore, but you’ll be able to find it in Hong Kong where it will retail for HKD12,500, or just over SGD2000 after conversion. Which isn’t so bad for a work tote as handsome and as functional as this.
And Dave, if you are reading this post, do know that it’s dedicated to you.
