It’s been an exciting journey as far as the Cruise 2014 Womens Chanel collection is concerned, from Karl Lagerfeld picking our tiny red dot to present the collection that had elements of colonial Singapore infused within, to black and white stripes that mimicked bamboo blinds that adorned bungalows, and red and white flourishes that also happen to be our state colours.
You can read the collection’s review here, or click here to see snapshots from the RTW show that was held at Loewen Cluster within Dempsey Village. You can also check out the Parfum Bottle Clutch, which is more than just a bag; it’s a piece of Chanel iconography that’s already sold out even before it was launched with wait lists a mile and a half long.
Today’s post, however, focuses on 3 of my picks from Chanel’s Cruise 2014 collection, each more lovely than and different from the next. Armed with only an iPhone5 (yes, I’m that kind of blogger) and using the neighbourhood where I live as a backdrop, here are my snapshots of the beautiful trio. Apt too, I think, seeing how the bags are inspired by Singapore, and thus most fittingly, shot around Singapore.
Inspired by Chanel’s Cruise 2014 ad campaign that’s shot in black and white, the ones here by yours truly are also the same. For full colour renditions, do check out my Facebook, and Instagram accounts. Also, if you’re keen on getting anything, most, if not all of the bags should already be available at Chanel; just check out boutiques located at either Marina Bay Sands or Ngee Ann City.
Boy Chanel Embroidered With Pearls And Sequins, SGD15,990
Almost a work of art with over 110 man hours just to complete the delicate embroidery on the flap alone, this is the Boy Chanel gone luxe, a delicate confection made up of glass pearls, colourful beads and striped sequins that were painstakingly hand stitched onto the bag. Set against white patent leather and finished off with silver hardware by way of the clasp and the thick metal chain sling, this is hands down the Boy Chanel of the season.
Fabric Flap Bag With Interlaced Chain And Pearls, SGD5790
Look at it closely enough and you’ll see bits of lace interspersed with fabric in cream, red and white, like a deconstructed strawberry sundae if you will. Lined in leather on the inside, the 26 cm by 16 cm bag also comes with a string of glass pearls adorned with tiny enamel buttons made specially for Chanel by Maison Desrues, which can be detached from the bag and and used a necklace, a bracelet or simply to adorn another of your Chanel bags.
Boy Chanel Clasp, SGD5350
An adaption of Chanel’s now famous ‘Lego’ clutch, the Cruise 2014 Boy Chanel Clasp is a functional wonder that’s worth a second look. In the front you’ll find the plexiglas plaque that’s striped in black and white, on the back (and the rest of the bag) in shiny patent leather. And depending on how you choose to adjust the long sling that comes with the bag, it can be worn across the body, over the shoulder or simply, just tuck it all away and use it as a clutch.
