One of Celine’s new F/W13 bags that I’m rather intrigued with (and that are now also available in Singapore) is the Berlingot, and the easiest way to describe its shape is to imagine a long triangle. Those who grew up in the region in the 70s and 80s might also find this shape familiar; remember those triangle Magnolia milk boxes we had during recess at school? It’s basically the same thing, but more elongated.
Available in smooth calfskin, thick felt and mink, the ones I’m most enamoured with are the ones that come in brushed mohair (shown above), which looks as though Phoebe skinned some characters from Sesame Street (do you not see Oscar?) and used them to make the Berlingot clutches.
Priced at SGD1500 a pop, I only have 2 complaints really. Because it’s mohair, it will get all over your clothes so keeping a lint remover handy would be wise. Secondly, it doesn’t come with a sling and because the shape is rather awkward, you’ll find clutching it stylishly a tad hard, unless like the model in the ad campaign when it’s constantly against your chest at all times but that really wouldn’t make any sense, would it?
