Firstly, let me just say that while this is an official image from Saint Laurent, it doesn’t do any justice to the actual bag. From their F/W13 collection, the Saint Laurent Mini Studs Small Sac De Jour is not a new style, but it does come with a twist. All the little dots you see on the bag are actually the tiniest of studs, so small and flat that they are set almost flush against its calfskin leather body. So flushed, in fact, the studs form a second skin, and one you’ll enjoy running your fingers over and over because believe me, it is one of the most tactile (and addictive) of experiences as far as texture is concerned.
Studded on both sides, it’s a tad heavier than the regular Sac De Jour bags in the same size, but the slight shimmery glints from the studs, as well as the ‘protective’ layer it forms over the calfskin (which also means it won’t suffer accidental nicks and scratches) more than make up for it.
Fully lined in suede, you’ll also find a divider pocket on the inside that’s topped with dual zips for quicker access (and always a luxury, in my opinion), another flat zip pocket on the side, as well as the option of adding on an additional shoulder sling that’s unfortunately not adjustable, which is my one and only gripe. Otherwise, it’s a gem, and one that will set you back by SGD5150 and should be making its debut in Singapore really soon.
One more thing before I sign off. For those of you heading to Hong Kong soon (or are there now for the long weekend), don’t forget to check out Saint Laurent’s newly refurbished flagship at Alexandra House. A stunning monochromatic space filled with marble, chrome and mirrors, the 3500 sq ft store is located at Chater Road, Central.
Definitely worth a visit since they’ll surely be stocking all the bags and SLGs from the current collections, as well as one-off limited edition pieces, which I hear include a pair of Sac De Jour bags in exotic crocodile that are priced at HKD295,000 apiece.
