Since the day I told myself I would get a backpack from MCM (sadly that day has come and gone), I’ve been looking online and off for the ideal candidate. It had to be sleek in either leather or some snazzy fabric (like the satin one from Raf Simons + Eastpack), it had to be amply-sized and most importantly, it had to come sans logos, which is also why the one from MCM I liked ruled itself out.
And because you’ll almost always find something if you look hard enough, I chanced upon the new season 3.1 Phillip Lim 31 Hour Backpack online. Available in two distinct variations; one’s a camouflage print, and the other in basic black, both comprised of exactly the same amount of cotton and leather in the ratio 70% to 30%.
Packing a pocket in the front along with adjustable shoulder straps, a large zipped opening on the top and a little hood covering the zipped opening, it’s pretty close to what I’m personally looking for in a backpack, functional without all the new-fangled bells and whistles that many such styles come with these days.
Priced at USD1100 and USD1250 respectively (the one in black costs more but don’t ask me why), my next step would be to check it out in person at the 3.1 Phillip Lim boutique inside Hilton Shopping Gallery. And guys, it’s a yay, right?
Update: 15 August 2013
For those of you keen to get yourself a backpack, here’s good news. 3.1 Phillip does ship internationally, and I had a quick try checking out the camouflage backpack. Priced at USD1100, those in Singapore will pay around SGD1650, which includes shipping.
