Beautiful from whichever angle you choose to look at it is the Maiyet Small Sophie Shoulder, a new-to-the-blog-brand that I’ve been quietly following lately. Founded in 2011, it’s a brand that’s focused on delivering luxury and practising social consciousness, finding ways to elevate those below the poverty line by employing those with highly specialised and refined craftsmanship from countries like India to Kenya and Peru.
And just because it’s made by craftspeople in places where they sell more tourist souvenirs than anything else, it doesn’t mean it has to look kitschy. Take the Small Sophie Shoulder, for instance. Measuring 20 cm by 15 cm, the braided calf hair bag comes trimmed with leather and is accented by Maiyet’s signature toggle clasp in aged gold-tone hardware. Featuring a removable shoulder sling and lined with suede for the extra touch of luxury, it is now available via Net-A-Porter where it is selling for GBP1180.
A small price to pay for something that does good, and looks pretty good too.
Before I go, here’s another bag you should have a look at, the Amazonia Clutch. Fierce, no?
