If there’s one thing that’s been pretty consistent with Burberry Prorsum in the last few seasons, it’s Christopher Bailey’s ability to edit his runway bag offerings down to an art, giving you exactly what he knows you’ll want. Take the unisex Duffle collection, for instance, the one key style you’ll be seeing from the British house as far as S/S14 is concerned.
Crafted in nappa leather (or 100% calf leather for those who are sticklers for details), he offers not one, not two, but 5 different sizes on his take of a basic drawstring duffle, a buttery-soft mess of a slouchy bag that’s also a 3-in-one. Use it as a clutch (you literally hold it in your hand ‘crushed’), sling it over your shoulder or wear it like a drawstring backpack.
Named Big Duffle, Duffle, Little Duffle, Mini Duffle and Baby Duffle respectively (you can see them all sitting in a row, which was specially commissioned in keeping with the theme of the S/S14 menswear collection, ‘Writers And Painters‘), sizes start from 20 cm by 25 cm and go all the way to 40 cm by 48 cm, good for the kitchen sink and then some. Prices are reasonable too, starting from SGD550 and peaking at SGD1550, considering everything is made-to-measure and will include a specially engraved plaque on the inside with your name or initials on it.
And if deciding which size suits you best won’t make you go crazy, choosing just 1 out of the 12 colour options available will. My list of favourite hues include Bottle Green, Flax Brown, Pale Antique Green and Pale Canvas Blue, though I think Orange and Vibrant Blue aren’t bad either.
Pre-orders end on 25 June 2013, and you’ll only have to wait for about 8 weeks before it is shipped to your door. Which means you’ll be able to use it for months on end before it’s even released on the market come 2014.
Big Duffle. Pale Canvas Blue or Bottle Green. With initials B.H.B, or A.C. Now excuse me while I go complete my order.
