It’s been almost impossible not to succumb to the charms of Saint Laurent as far as their bags and SLGs are concerned, especially since the Classic Sac De Jour and the Betty already got many of you pretty excited. Today we’ve got another I-know-it-in-my-heart-that-it-is-a-classic-in-the-making, the Saint Laurent Lulu.
Available in 2 sizes, the Medium Lulu (shown above) measures 24 cm by 17 cm, and my favourite of the line-up has got to be the dual colour black and white one here. With compact shoulder bags firmly sitting on many a fashionista’s shoulder this season, the Lulu‘s most definitive feature has got to be its hooked clasp, which you’ve got to unlock to lift the flap.
Lined with suede, you’ll find 2 interior pockets as well as a removable mirror that’s essential when you need to touch up the gloss. Priced at GBP1335 via Net-A-Porter (SGD2980, HKD17,880), you’ll also find Lulu in a smaller size (17 cm by 12 cm) in black that’s no less alluring. Especially when it’s priced at just over GBP1000.
Which frankly is more affordable (and interesting) than that other French brand that underwent a wonderful revival but is looking a little same-old same-old now.
And in case you are wondering why the bag is named Lulu, I’m guessing Hedi was probably paying homage to La Vilaine Lulu (or Naughty Lulu), a comic-strip story book that was first published in 1967 and was written and illustrated by Yves Saint Laurent.
