Deciding to showcase the best Spanish artisans had to offer was the premise behind Loewe’s Best Hands Of Spain project, creating a selection of luxury goods that not only casts the spotlight on these unheralded craftsmen, but also shows the world that the Spanish house has more to offer than just the Amazona.
From ornate Spanish fans to Manila shawls, leather goods in the form of animals to espadrilles, it’s the footwear I’m most excited about, especially since they should be launched in Singapore next week. Working with the Castañer family, there will be a small collection of Loewe-branded espadrilles in leather and suede available for both men and women.
Using only the best Indian jute that forms part of the sole, each pair is handled by no less than 12 artisans, each leaving their mark from the time the jute is spun to the final stitching process which takes up to 2 hours for each pair. Priced at SGD710 a pair, you’ll find them in the gorgeous colours associated with Loewe, as well as Oro suede that’s another trademark hue.
And before I sign off, here’s the Best Hands Of Spain video which gives you a look at the projects I’ve just mentioned, with glimpses of how the espadrilles are made. Enjoy.
