If I were asked point blank to recommend one bag from all of S/S13 Céline, it would have to be the Edge, which at first glance won’t make the best of impressions. Oddly shaped, the bucket-like bag comes with a single handle that one can sling over the shoulder. And that’s about it, until you notice the other details, like the extra long zip pull that opens up the bag for easy access, the roomy, boxy interior and of course, the starkly beautiful, structurally sound lines.
And that’s perhaps what’s still so magical about Phoebe Philo, who constantly creates new bags that everyone desires. Available in smooth calfskin or those finished with a panel of luxe python, you can find a selection available at Céline boutiques at Ngee Ann City or DFS Galleria Scottswalk.
Speaking of DFS Galleria Scottwalk, during a recent visit over the weekend, I spotted rows upon rows of all the Céline bags that were usually less sighted than unicorns. There were countless Trapeze bags (from SGD3150) in almost every colour combination available, Luggage Phantom in at least 5 colours, a row of Cabas Phantom totes that retailed from between SGD2500 and SGD2700, and even a sprinkling of Luggage icons from the Nano (SGD2900) to the Mini (SGD3550).
Was it a case of too many shipments coming in all at once, or has the popularity of these particular bags waned? Have people realised that they are just becoming too commonplace in Singapore (and around the world) or does no one here really shop at DFS Galleria?
