Just for fun I thought I’d feature something that can’t technically be bought off the shelf, but for those with pockets as deep as the Marianas Trench, read on. Created by/for Marc Jacobs to be used as a ‘home away from home’ for his beloved bull terriers, Alfred and Daisy, it is a testament to the skills and expertise of the Louis Vuitton’s Special Orders atelier, located in the Asnières workshop near Paris.
Taking orders only on pieces that have a theme that’s related to travel, the atelier has created everything from carrying cases for musical instruments to Sharon Stone’s Damier Ebene vanity case that was sold with proceeds benefitting amfAR, just to give you an idea. I’ve also seen hard-sided Monogram Canvas cake boxes, Nomade trunks that open up and transform into safari beds and even Epi briefcase-like cases that contain a complete Chinese tea set on the inside.
In other words, so long as your customised piece is travel-related, Louis Vuitton will make it, allowing you to choose the finish right down to the colour of the nail. Even if it is just a dog case for Fluffy.
