Because I really shouldn’t be mocking or passing judgement on anything that I haven’t seen for myself in person, the verdict is still out as far as the new S/S13 Tom Ford Lock Flat Fold-Over Tote is concerned. One of Mr Ford’s key bags for the season, it’s featured in the Spring-Summer 2013 Womens Tom Ford ad campaign as well (shown above), in shiny patent leather and finished off with gold-tone hardware.
The premise is simple. You stick your arm through the half moon cut-out hole and it becomes a hobo, the slouchy body hugging close to your body. Carry it via the same cut-out hole and it becomes a tote. Fold it over and it becomes a clutch, which effectively makes it one of those new-fangled 3-in-one bags that have become more commonplace these days.
Available in a variety of finishes from glossy patent to matte kidskin (which I’m assuming is from the young of a goat), colours available include Black, Ivory and Nude, along with luxurious versions in alligator. Prices start from USD1990 , which isn’t so bad for such a huge, made-in-Italy tote from Tom Ford.
Another bag that I’ve got my eye on is the Tom Ford Natalia, easily identified by its oversized clasp. Available in a variety of sizes including an east-west variation that’s just longer, I’m assuming this one in stunning purple croc (or is it alligator) will come with its own shoulder sling as well, which makes it all the more useful. Also, who can resist a colour combination like this?

Jennifer Aniston has exclusively worn his bags and it comes as a shock to me that Tom Ford could have produced these designs. Carrying the Natalia, even Ms Aniston looked like she was overpowered. And if his mantra is to make the wearer stand out, I mean what is there to say more. And I am not crazy to know that even bringing this out to be limo driven, I am going to find a new scratch on my purse.
hmm where is the usual sex appeal that he is known for… where is the luxe factor? (FB)
I think it looks promising! Hope we can get a glimpse of it’s overall look soon.
reminds me of the bag that Anne Hathaway used in The Devil Wears Prada… when she went to get the sketches for the design of Miranda Priestly’s dress…
And I wonder why we still don’t have a Tom Ford stand-alone boutique in Singapore…
I don’t feel overly optimistic about that tote.
eh…
