With the much talked-about Chanel S/S13 ‘Lego’ Clutch due to be released soon, I thought it would be nice to have a look at some of my favourite Chanel clutches. Whilst none of them can be purchased anymore from Chanel (well, save for the ‘Lego’ Clutch, that is), you could still get lucky at your local vintage store, luxury auctions and sometimes even eBay.
Made from materials like acrylic and lucite to plexiglass and even hammered metal, they have more similarities than you think. Besides being hard-sided, none of them have any leather or fabric on them (well, on the outside anyway), which also means these are the ones that are also built to last. They have also become limited editions in their own right, each more interesting, quirky and unique than the next.
My favourite amongst the lot? It has to be the Chanel Cassette Tape Clutch. Gorgeous, no?
Clockwise from top left: Chanel Clear PVC Clutch (released in 2011, USD6595), Chanel Metallic Lambskin And Plexi ‘Ice Cube’ Clutch (released in 2010, USD6600), Chanel Paris-Moscow Matroyshka ‘Doll Clutch’ (released in 2009, USD3700), Chanel Cassette Tape Clutch (released in 2004, USD1600), Chanel Hammered Metal Gold Bar Clutch, Chanel ‘Lego’ Clutch (released in 2013).

the bag hag has the doll clutch and up close, it is the most beautiful thing ever! all i ever got from the paris-shanghai collection was a long matryoshka necklace that is one of my most treasured possessions…
I’m with you – the cassette clutch rocks!
The gold bar clutch is also undeniably luxe. Here is to hoping I can find a cool Chanel clutch in Paris in a few months!
The Russian Doll… I ALWAYS tell my friends to buy clutches and small bags that are most unique… I would kill my mother for that Cassette Tape Clutch and the Take Out Box Bag. (FB)
