Savvier Singaporeans who visit Paris (or virtually live online) will be aware of French luxury house Moynat, recently revived and one that makes beautiful bags using only the finest leathers. Having visited the Rue Saint Honoré flagship (a few doors away from Balenciaga and diagonally across from Miu Miu) when I was in Paris last, I spoke to CEO Guillaume Davin who informed me that one of their biggest groups of customers in Asia hailed from Singapore.
And with bags like the Moynat Réjane in their small but beautiful repertoire, it’s not hard to see why. A new addition, the Réjane is dedicated to Gabrielle Réjane, a celebrated actress from the Parisian theatre scene in 1896. Her admirers included Pauline Moynat, who then created the Sac Réjane in her honour.
The Réjane today is contemporary and curvaceous, with little ingenious touches added in by designer Ramesh Nair. For example, there are little rings fastened to the rings on the handle that allow one to easily attach the shoulder strap, ensuring none of the hardware will accidentally scratch the Taurillon Gex leather. Her curves are inspired by Moynat’s Limousine Briefcase, also curved at the bottom to allow it to sit comfortably on one’s lap.
Classy, well-designed and beautiful is how I would describe the Réjane, and the next time you’re in Paris, do head down for a look. Or drop them an email with your enquiries, and if it catches your fancy it can be shipped here direct to your doorstep as well.
