As far as this particular YSL Chyc Cabas is concerned, I’m 50/50 about it. On one hand there’s nothing not to love about the Chyc Cabas, a breakout hit from the French house that’s now become a standard issue for corporate OL (short for office ladies) types the world over.
Besides being available in a wide variety of sizes (Small, with sling, Medium and Large), the latter two are great for the office. Looking the part, they are roomy and generous enough for say, an iPad or a small laptop. It’s also been released in enough permutations to warrant its own exhibit in the Musée du Louvre, from full leather ones to the ones in calf hair (printed or otherwise), from exotics (like full faux lizard ones to those trimmed with real python) to yes, denim.
In other words, I most definitely approve.
And now for the downside. While I’m loving the colour combo of this Chyc Cabas that’s now available via Net-A-Porter, I’m not 100% sure about the felt body, since we all know what happens to felt over time with normal wear and tear. Yes, the tone-on-tone grey is nice, the black patent leather trim (and handles) are sexy, but when it comes down to whether you can use this for forever and a day, I’m not that sure anymore.
Retailing for GBP1165 (or around SGD2310 after conversion), it’s no small chunk of change either, which just adds to my uncertainty. What do you think?
