Alarm bells go off whenever I come across anything in patent leather, and it is because of these reasons. Firstly, there is a tendency for patent to get sticky (or worse still, get stuck together) which makes it really hard to maintain. Secondly, very few designer brands do patent bags or SLGs really well, and they often end up looking tacky and cheap.
And while there is really nothing we can do about the the first point, the new Tod’s Signature collection does a pretty good job as far in terms of not looking tacky and cheap. Their first official foray into patent leather as far as bags and SLGs are concerned, the Signature collection features a wide variety of embossed patent leather pieces in a multitude of rich colours.
Having seen (and personally inspected) most of the pieces recently, I am still unsure about the larger bags, not because they aren’t beautiful, but because I’m not a fan of anything huge being all shiny and bright. Instead, I’m loving all the small leather goods, which are the perfect way to add that jolt of colour to your ensemble.
From purses to long zip wallets, clutches to iPad cases, I also like the fact that they are really lightweight to begin with, even if they are made of leather.
Available for sale now at Tod’s boutiques island wide, there are also some Signature pieces in matte embossed leather, great for those not afflicted with the magpie syndrome.
Check out the short video as well, which will show you most (if not all) the pieces in the collection. And check out my Facebook fan page where I put up more pieces from the collection along with their prices in SGD.
