When is a Saumur not a Saumur? When it is the new Menilmontant, of course. Louis Vuitton took the old classic and gave it a refreshing update, and gone are the details like the front belt buckle (replaced with magnetic closure instead) and expandable sides. The front flap is also pleated, and on the inside, expect details like a single zip pocket and two wide slots for all your paper-related bits and bobs.
Available in two sizes (PM and MM), the Louis Vuitton Monogram Canvas Menilmontant is expected to go on sale worldwide from June 2011. And for those who are keen, here’s an idea for the sizing. As far as the larger MM is concerned, it will measure 43 cm across by 30.5 cm, while the smaller PM will come in at around 40 cm by 29 cm. Which technically makes both much larger than the Saumur which only comes in at 29 cm in width.
Priced at SGD1720 for the MM and SGD1450 for the PM, it isn’t all that pricey either, which makes it a good candidate for those looking for an entry-level hands-free messenger. Still, I’ve got to ask. Between the larger revamped Menilmontant and the smaller classic Saumur, which do you prefer, and why?

Thanks for the update Benny!
This is a cool bag! I especially like its pleated flap and magnetic closure.
I used to have a saumur, but I sold it. The buckle was a big hassle for me.
love it! will it be available in damier?
Not that I know of. Will update the post if anything changes.
I have the saumur but still quite like the updated details on this. And best of all, price is still reasonable.
saumur for me.
THIS ONE IS AWESOME! i love the pleats.. and super easy to handle without the buckle. however… the vachetta still needs a lot of work especially when its done in trimming…
