As far as Singaporeans are concerned, gym gear largely revolves around tattered tees, army issue kits, matchy-matchy sets from the big boys and those loud singlets from the shops, whose sales assistants wear only flip-flops. Very few people actually bother to dress up for the gym, which logically makes sense since all you are going to do is sweat and grunt anyway.
Still, for those who are craving better alternatives, there is hope in the form of the Ron Dorff collection, which will be making its debut in Singapore from 14 January 2011. Created by a French-Swedish design duo, the collection combines Scandinavian functionalism with Parisian elegance. In other words, the collection promises to not only work well, but look good at the same time as well.
From swim trunks to tennis shorts, exerciser shorts (for the gym, I suppose, from SGD200) and white jersey tees with a gently tapered fit (read: only wear if you’ve already got a smashing gym bod, from SGD130), the collection is minimalist at best, clean, uncluttered and stylish.
And no, it doesn’t end there. Besides the prerequisite workout gear, Ron Dorff also has a bodycare line for men named Skärgård, consisting of a shower gel, a shampoo, a conditioner and of course, massage oil to soothe those aching muscles. Made in Sweden, other items in the lineup include a padlock and a locker wristband, and the towel with the brand’s mantra Discipline Is Not A Dirty Word splashed across it.
All that’s really missing is a gym bag and you’re truly good to go. Check out the full collection at Club21’s pop-up store at Forum The Shopping Mall (#01-28) from 15 January 2011.
