That it literally rained on the runway will perhaps be the deepest memory I’ll have of the Fall-Winter 2011 Mens Burberry show that just showed in Milan. And the four bags I’ll be thinking about in my dreams will be these rugged canvas ones that came out during the middle of the show.
More utilitarian than anything else, they are simple and fuss-free without any bells and whistles. More importantly, they are also incredibly affordable, with prices ranging from GBP895 to GBP1195.
First up, the Burberry Prorsum Large Rugged Canvas Landscape Tote Bag (top left) which is also my personal favourite at the moment. Measuring 50 cm by 42 cm, the canvas tote was slightly resinated to give it some structure so it won’t flop over when it is placed on the ground. Retailing for GBP1095, I’m really, really tempted.
Next, the briefcase-like Burberry Prorsum Large Rugged Canvas Rectangular Holdall Bag that retails for GBP895. Stone-coloured canvas is matched with red leather trim for a look that’s definitely classic and it measures 56 cm by 36 cm, big enough for a change of clothes and then some.
On the bottom right we’ve got the Burberry Prorsum Gladstone Canvas Tote Bag, a slim tall bag that’s great for work. Measuring 42 cm by 46 cm, it is definitely big enough for a laptop, and the tubular smooth ebony wood detail is a nice touch. Even better, the tote costs just GBP995, which isn’t too bad at all.
Last but not least, the Hermès lookalike, the Burberry Prorsum Large Rugged Canvas Traveller Bag, which will retail for GBP1195. The priciest of the four here, it is also the one I’m most unsure about. Do I really want a bag that will invite comparisons to the Haut-A-Courroie, or should I just stick to my first choice?
Decisions, decisions. What do you guys think?
And the rain. Definitely unexpected, but what a perfect way to end the show.
