Reader Lydia Koh emailed me to ask about which Le Pliage from Longchamp would make a good travel companion for her upcoming 5 day trip. And even though I own the Longchamp Le Pliage Travel Bag myself (but in Chocolate), I decided to make a small detour from my usual designer haunts and paid Longchamp at Paragon a visit.
There are actually 3 bags from the Le Pliage line that can be considered good ‘travelling’ companions, the Le Pliage Type Large (SGD228), the Le Pliage Type Extra Large (SGD261) and the Le Pliage Travel Bag. While the first 2 are both roomy (one is just longer than the other), the Longchamp Le Pliage Travel Bag comes with an additional shoulder strap that’s removable. And if you look at the bag above closely, you will see a zip running across the centre of the body. You can unzip it and it extends by an additional third, which simply means more storage space.
It is also the better of the 3 simply because there is the shoulder strap, which gives you the added option of slinging it over your shoulder when you need to be hands-free, an advantage the first 2 do not have. You can also purchase an additional lock, which allows you to zip (and lock) the bag for more peace of mind.
Now the bad news. The leather handles are rather thin, and because I own both the Le Pliage Travel Bag and Le Pliage Type Large myself, I consciously try not to overload them when I use either. Common sense should also be applied, not only with this but all the other bags you own. Naturally when you put too much in, the handles are usually the first to get distorted and damaged.
And Lydia, if you are still considering this as a viable option, it retails for SGD398 and comes only in Red, Chocolate and Black at the moment.
