Q: Hi Bagaholicboy, I am such a fan of your blog that I will log on to it once or more a day as you update it very often. I love so many bags you featured and because of you I bought the Jack Spade Industrial Canvas Reversible Coal Bag, one of only 2 in Singapore! Now I need help in getting a little messenger bag for myself but not Jack Spade as it is too casual. I am working in the financial sector in Shenton Way and need something in leather and more ‘atas’*. Please help! Thanks.
A: Hi Aldwin, thanks for the query. I saw the images of the 2 bags you attached with your email, from Louis Vuitton and Loewe which I feel are much too casual and not nearly ‘atas’ enough. You did not state a budget or a colour preference, which pretty much means I can recommend anything I desire. Right now I am liking these 2 bags, the Mulberry Toby (left) and the YSL Mombasa Messenger Bag (right).
The Mulberry Toby (around SGD700) measures 27cm by 26cm, it has a front leather-slip fastening and an adjustable shoulder strap. I also like the fact that heavy grained leather is used, which makes it stylish and rugged at the same time. On the other hand, the YSL Mombosa Messenger Bag (SGD1300 or so) features a deer horn handle, something you don’t find on most bags and definitely a conversation starter. The strap is also adjustable and tumbled leather is used for the body. Both bags are very different and what you decide on may also depend on whether you favour English ‘sensibility’ or French ‘oomph’.
