After the head-turning MoonSwatch collaboration with Omega last year, Swatch is making new waves with a diver’s timepiece honouring Blancpain’s Fifty Fathoms. Besides creating the world’s first modern diving watch in 1953, Blancpain also perfects specific tools for the ocean community.

Despite its status as the go-to brand for professional divers and underwater explorers alike, Blancpain isn’t resting on its laurels. This year, it continues to revolutionise the iconic watch by working together with Swatch to launch the Bioceramic Fifty Fathoms.

Powered by Swatch’s SISTEM51 mechanical movement (yes, it isn’t quartz), it also encapsulates several Fifty Fathoms signatures. These include the rotating bezel, anti-magnetic protection and a water resistance of 91 metres. Other notable features include a 90-hour power reserve, visible movement on the back, and Blancpain x Swatch logos on the dial and crown.

Five models will be available at launch, namely the Antarctic Ocean, Arctic Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean. Each features a different hue and depicts unique nudibranchs (molluscs) found in the respective oceans on the movement’s rotor. Specific to the Arctic Ocean and Antarctic Ocean models, ‘No Radiations’ and ‘Scuba’ motifs take the place of date indicators.

Serious about sustainability? Then you will appreciate that the Bioceramic material is two-thirds ceramic and one-third bio-sourced from castor oil. Fishing nets are also recycled into the NATO straps, reaffirming the Swatch Group’s commitment to ocean preservation.

Retailing at SGD565 each, the Blancpain x Swatch Bioceramic Fifty Fathoms Collection is now available at selected Swatch boutiques in Singapore, with purchases restricted to one watch per person per day. However, this is not a limited-edition collection so there will be restocks throughout the year. In other words, no need to buy them on resale markets; just head directly to Swatch to make your purchase.
