There are many reasons why I always make it a point to visit Goyard whenever I’m in Paris, and one of those reasons is the off-chance you get to discover something old. Yes, old. Confused? Let me explain.

Having a lineage as old and as revered as Goyard does means they have an ample historical archive, and if you choose to look past offerings like the Saint Louis and the Boeing, the Ambassade and the Croisière, chances are you’ll find something you’ve never ever seen before, and the experience of it for someone like me is akin to unearthing hidden treasures.

Which was the case the last time I was in Paris, when I ventured in looking for a shoulder strap and a wallet for my partner. With those tasks accomplished, my eyes started to wander around the store and landed on the Goyard Sainte Lucie which was sitting in the display cabinet.

What looked like a folded briefcase quickly turned into something else. Undo the buttons on the top flap and it unfurls into a tall vertical tote that measures 34 cm by 33 cm by 16 cm. Lightweight (it literally weighs next to nothing) and roomy (when unfurled), it was just the type (and shape) of tote I still don’t have in my own collection, and right there and then I almost committed.

Available in a limited number of colours and priced at EUR1350 each, I’m definitely picking one up if I ever find my way back to Paris, or have one customised to my personal specifications, which is also possible at Goyard. I just need to decide. Soon.

As promised, here’s the much overdue post on Goyard in Hong Kong, which is currently located at the grand old dame, The Peninsula in Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon. A small quaint outpost, the 80 sqm isn’t exactly the biggest compared to the other designer brands, but then again, Goyard isn’t exactly the same as other designer brands.

Established in 1853, Goyard only has a handful of stores around the world, something which makes them even more coveted. Less is more? Indeed. As far as the selection goes, the Hong Kong store is pretty self-sufficient, but because the brand is so popular around the region, most of the desirable bags are almost always sold out.

I could go on and on, but here are my top 10 points to note when shopping in Goyard. If you’re planning a trip soon, don’t forget to bookmark this post.

01. Goyard Hong Kong does not take email orders. Unlike their London or Paris counterparts, Hong Kong is not yet equipped to handle overseas orders via email or phone.

02. When it comes to the bags and SLGs at Goyard, do note that there are different prices for different colours. Black, Red and Tan are the basic colours, while all others like Blue, Burgundy, Green and Yellow retail for around 30% more.

03. There are 3 basic colours (Black, Red and Tan) and 7 other colours, each colour having a numeric code. For example, Black is 01, Red is 02 and so on. Pink is not one of the 10 regular colours, but a limited edition hue that pops up from time to time.

04. There is, however, one exception. All the colours for the classic Goyard Saint Louis are priced the same, HKD8700 for the MM and HKD9900 for the GM. The Goyard Belvedere (shown above), which is one of the newest additions to the family, retails for HKD15,000 and HKD17,500 respectively for the 3 basic colours.

05. Another new bag, the Goyard Voltaire which is a roomy vertical A3 tote, is also the first one in the family to come with its own detachable shoulder strap and it retails for HKD17,000.

06. SLGs to check out that I personally adore include the Varenne (a long continental wallet for the ladies) that costs HKD8200 and the passport cover for the men that can easily double up as a travel wallet which retails for HKD4300.

07. Bags for men worth checking out include the Diplomat, an A4-sized briefcase that retails for HKD19,200. Another Goyard basic, the Ambassade retails for HKD22,670. The larger Ambassade 24H goes for HKD30,700. All prices listed here refer to the 3 basic colours only.

08. Prices at Goyard Hong Kong start from HKD2300 (around SGD350 after conversion) for the flat card case in the basic colours.

09. The Hong Kong boutique will take requests for monograms, but they will take up to 8 weeks to process as all painting is currently sent to and executed by the craftsman based in Japan. Prices are dependent on the number of initials and stripes if desired, and it is best to get a quote directly from the boutique.

10. Last but not least, Goyard never goes on sale. Really.

Any other questions? Please leave them in the comments section and I’ll try to answer them as best I can.

Having only decided today that I’ll be bringing my much neglected Boeing to Shanghai, I decided to quickly google Goyard and see if anything new was going on for the revered French house. Going through pages and pages of the usual suspects and counterfeits, I finally spotted this new curiosity, the Goyard Belvedere.

Released late last year, the Belvedere is part of Goyard’s new Core collection as part of their ongoing efforts to refresh/renew its bag designs, which also includes new models like the Grenadines and the Marquises, which will hopefully be covered later in another post.

Basically a very small saddle-style bag that’s in season at the moment, it comes in 3 sizes (GM, MM and PM) and starts from around USD1300 a piece. The one pictured above is the one in PM and I’m guessing the GM should comfortably fit the 13″ MBP.

The nearest boutique to get yourself some Goyard in person would be Hong Kong, and hopefully before the year is over (or early next), we’ll get our own boutique in Singapore as well. Watch this space for more updates.

A reader of mine (we’ll call her V.G. for now) promptly emailed them and today is the proud owner of her very own Goyard Saint Louis PM in Burgundy. And she didn’t even have to leave Singapore to get it.

This is her true story.

It was fuss-free and pleasant right from the first email, with prompt replies from the London boutique all the time. After I’d decided on the colour and size they sent me a CC authorisation form which I then filled and signed. Next I scanned the form, my ID and CC and emailed the whole lot to them.

I had to pay GST which is unavoidable when shipped via major courier. The GST amount was around SGD86 with a handling fee of SGD10, which I paid via cheque to the DHL’s delivery guy when he dropped off my order. The bag cost GBP459.57 sans tax while the shipping was another GBP85 which I paid direct to Goyard.

I did feel the pinch when I had to pay those extras, but since Goyard is not available in Singapore and I am unlikely to go to Paris or London this year, I really didn’t mind in the end.

Once my order was confirmed I received a tracking number from Goyard and within a week DHL had delivered the bag to my doorstep. They wrapped it in layers of yellow paper, which was then put into a bubble envelope. It was than wrapped in another layer of yellow paper and put inside a Goyard carrier before finally being put into a DHL envelope.

I would definitely buy from them next time I have a ‘craving’ for anything Goyard.

Thanks again V.G. for sharing your account with us. And for those who are wondering how much she paid in all, it was around SGD1335 based on today’s exchange rate.

Few brands rank as high in my heart as Goyard does and though I already own 3 pieces from this brand lately I’ve been itching to get myself a fourth. And the fourth piece I’ve been toying to get is (surprise surprise) the Goyard Saint Louis GM in Black. I know I know, I already have one in Black/Tan, but one in Black would be the perfect match for my Goyard Boeing45.

And like the profile I did for the Goyard Boeing collection recently, here’s all you need to know about the Goyard Saint Louis collection including how to get yourself one sent direct to your home all the way from London.

First, the size. There are currently only 2 sizes available (the 3rd has been discontinued), Petit Modèle and Grand Modèle (otherwise known as PM and GM respectively). The GM comes in 40 cm by 34 cm by 8 cm, and the PM, 34 cm by 11 cm by 6 cm. Now the colours. Pink has been discontinued and in its place Red (T2), a newly reintroduced colour along with perennial favourites Black (T1), Black/Tan (T3), Burgundy (T9), Green (T6), Light Blue (T7), Navy (T8), Orange (T4), White (T10) and Yellow (T5).

Now for the best bit, the prices. According to the price list I’ve obtained from Goyard London, they are now priced at GBP480 and GBP580 or around SGD1080 and SGD1300 based on today’s exchange rates. You can now also email Goyard London direct to place your order, and they will have it shipped direct to you, though extra costs like shipping and the local 7% GST will be borne by you as well.

So yes, you can now own a piece from a brand I personally consider bag royalty, even if you’re stuck on our tiny red dot.

Now excuse me while I go decide if I should go ahead and order the one in Black. And Jessica, if you’re reading this make sure you exercise self-control and stick to what we’ve discussed over email. I’ll be watching.

I have been getting loads of emails regarding the Boeing45 I purchased recently in London, and many of you were interested in the sizes/prices of the Goyard Boeing collection in general. Naturally it took me a while to gather the information, but well, here it is.

The Goyard Boeing currently comes in five different sizes: 25, 30, 45, 55 and 65. While some have said that the numbers are just for reference and not indicative of their actual sizes, this is not true. The number is the size, or rather, in reference to the length of the bag.

Now it gets tricky, so read carefully. For every size there are 2 prices, depending on the colour of the bag you want. To make it easier; just remember this. Black, Black/Tan and Red (T1, T2 and T3) fall under one price category, while all the other colours fall under another price category. Apparently this is because all the other colours are more expensive to produce, thus the difference.

For example, a Boeing25 retails for GBP410 for the 3 colours I mentioned above, and GBP540 for all other colours (including Blue, Green, Yellow and so on). Here are the other prices for the collection: Boeing30 (GBP1200, GBP1570), Boeing45 (GBP1420, GBP1850), Boeing55 (GBP1470, GBP1910) and last but not least, Boeing65 (GBP1580, GBP2060).

Now for the good news. For those living outside the EU, Goyard London at Mount Street will take orders over email and have them sent to you direct, provided of course your country is on their pre-approved list. Singapore is (I would know, I asked them myself), though you will have to bear all additional costs like delivery (most likely DHL or FedEX) and customs tax.

One more thing. The Goyard Boeing25 is not bag; it is actually a toiletries pouch.

Famed luxury goods maker Goyard is set to open their doors at 116 Mount Street in London come 24 August 2009. I’m just thankful the timing is perfect, and it also means I will have to add a little something-something from Goyard to my personal colllection.

I am starting to fall deeper and deeper in love with the chevron pattern. The shape of this bag also resembles the Louis Vuitton Sac Plat, which I wanted to get this year, but now I changed my mind. Going to stick with Goyard for now.
