Measuring 39 cm by 31 cm, the Fendi Large Peekaboo Satchel is a sight for sore eyes, especially the one here in grey felt with a flash of leopard fabric lining and black suede on the inside. Retailing for GBP1566.30 on Net-A-Porter, it’s the perfect casual/corporate tote for the woman on the go.

Strangely though, I’ve never received a single snapshot of the Peekaboo for Bagaholicboy Mailbag. Does anyone out there have one? Or hoping to get one sometime soon?

Fendi iPhone Cover

No, your eyes are not playing any tricks on you. They are indeed a pair of rubber iPhone covers from Fendi in Olive (shown above), or Black.

Retailing now at Net-A-Porter for just GBP35 each (or SGD73 or so before shipping), is this Karl Lagerfeld’s attempt to reach out and give everyone a chance to own something from the luxury marque?

Luxury for the masses? Or a very bad idea? More importanly, who here is getting one?

Bagaholicboy Muses #168 – The Big 5 Of Milan

In the African safari there is a particular term ‘the big 5′ which refers to 5 animals that are must-sees when you’re on such a trip. They comprise of the lion, leopard, black rhino, elephant and cape buffalo. Similarly in Milan, there are also 5 which I consider must-sees, and they include (in no particular order of merit of course), Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Fendi, Prada and Dolce & Gabbana. And while the first 4 were primarily picked because of their traditional emphasis on bags, Dolce & Gabbana was only picked due to their pure showmanship.

For the F/W10 season, Gucci is all ‘grown-up’, echoing 38-year-old Frida Giannini’s quip, ‘I’ve grown up. It’s more mature clothes for more mature women, because that’s what I am’. In this case, the bags are also all grown-up, serious, mature and luxurious. Simple, classically-styled pieces that include flat clutches, satchels and the odd sling bag in leather and exotic ostrich, embellished with a single large Gucci logo. Understated and elegant.

Over at Bottega Veneta it is all about the power lesbian; bold, intense and modern. The bags also seem to follow this ethos, functional, no-nonsense pieces that are practical with a touch of luxe. Shimmering leather, exotic skins and the trademark intrecciato leather round up the selection that should frankly appeal to women of all orientations.

Fendi, Fendi, Fendi. While the clothes are a mish-mash of minimal and military with loads of fur thrown in-between, the bags on the other hand will appeal to those hailing from Asia. The same formula of classic shapes and luxe materials is applied, this time in shades of gold, yellow and mustard, colours that are favoured by Asian royalty and rich alike. Stand-out pieces include the gorgeous sunflower-yellow Peekaboo with tiger/leopard/cheetah lining (it is the Year of the Tiger after all) and a classic satchel that comes with a customisable luggage tag.

‘The Stepford Wives’ meets ‘The Addams Family’ was what immediately came to mind when I watched the Fall-Winter 2010 Womens Prada presentation online at Prada’s site. Stark and stoic with nary an ounce of joy, everything was muted and toned down. The bags too, were similarly presented, what looked like dyed raffia woven into clutches and bags, dulled plaids made up framed bags with the odd patent leather horror trimmed with exotic alligator.

Last but not least, we’ve got Dolce & Gabbana who paid an emotional tribute to their skilled, white-coated women and men in their ateliers who craft their product. Bags too (the Miss Sicily in particular) were kept simple in a lush variety of finishes and skins in an attempt to show off the detailed workmanship that Dolce & Gabbana is capable off, and cementing their position as the Italian luxury house of choice.

The Good, The Bag And The Ugly #53 – Fendi DIY Baguette

First there was the Baguette which came with markers that basically meant you could scribble and doodle as creatively as you chose. And now, let me introduce the Fendi DIY Baguette which you can embroider as you like. Made of sheer woven raffia, the bag comes with multicoloured embroidery threads, needles and thimbles. Retailing for around SGD1400 on Net-A-Porter, I honestly don’t know what’s worse; being given a chance to attempt such an expensive DIY project or being mocked for even spending so much on it in the first place.

What’s next? A flat-packed Peekaboo (think Ikea) that you have to assemble yourself by following the instructional inserts?

Fendi Fortune Canvas Tote

Walking past Fendi at Ngee Ann City yesterday I found myself stopping dead in my tracks and staring hard at this; the Fendi Fortune Canvas Tote. Apparently it is from the Cruise 2010 Womens Fendi collection, and besides the green four-leaf clover design, they’ve also got totes, pouches and SLGs in other designs including a red ladybird and a blue fish (now since when was a blue fish lucky?).

Frankly I’m horrified, but because I’ve already been a major bitch this week with the marbles, I let you (my dear readers) do the talking. Love it? Or loathe it? Discuss…

Absolutely soul-stirring and hauntingly beautiful is the Fall-Winter 2009 Womens Fendi ad campaign. Fronted by model Jessica Stam and shot by Karl Lagerfeld himself, it’s got to be one of my favourite campaigns to date.

Bagaholicboy Muses #74 – Branded Bicycles

As much as they would like to tell you otherwise, these are obviously not meant for city living. For starters, where would you find somewhere safe enough to park them? In my opinion unless you live in a sprawling country estate there is really no reason to get one.

The latest addition to the world of designer bicycles is the two-wheeler offered by Fendi, the Fendi Abici Amante Donna, which comes in 2 different editions. The first edition (shown above) comes with everything pictured and costs USD9500. Take away the fur saddlebags at the back and it will only cost USD5900.

In August last year Hermès teamed up with Dutch bicycle manufacturer Batavus and ‘revamped’ one of their models (the Old Dutch) with leather accents on the seat and handles. Without the ‘revamp’ it would originally cost USD799, but after the Hermès ‘touch’ it became USD3500.

And even before that, Chanel had her own bicycle as well as part of the Spring-Summer 2008 Womens Chanel collection. Coming with its very own pair of Classic Flap saddlebags, it cost a whopping USD12,695.

Last but not least, there was the one Gucci made specially for the 2008 Olympics. It retailed for USD3420 and came replete with a pair of Guccissima leather saddlebags in bright Red.

Bagaholicboy News #78 – Updates From Orchard Road!

It has been a long while since Boo and I went out with my Mum, so today we thought to hit town and do our rounds with her in tow. First stop on our itinerary was Chanel at Ngee Ann City, as Mum is looking to add a Chanel 2.55 (see #1) to her collection. We did find one she liked, but at over SGD4000 or so we figured it would be cheaper for me to get it for her when I visit Paris in September. We also saw the Chanel Leather Shopping Tote, which ranged from over SGD2000 to SGD4000 or so, depending on the size. The leather used was stiff and came fully lined on the inside with interior pockets which was unexpected.

Next we headed to Loewe, where I spotted the Loewe Amazona Weekender (see #2). Retailing for around SGD3700 or so, this denim beauty somehow fell short in my opinion. Sure it was gorgeous, but something about the extremely stiff body put me off. Nice, but not for me. Mum spotted an Amazona in canvas with wild boar leather trim in White which was also pretty stunning, and at SGD2300 or so definitely worth getting. Next we checked out the new Fendi Peekaboo Satchel (see #3) at Fendi. They had only one on display (the rest were not in Singapore yet), so the friendly SA took out a folder with all the different variations for me to browse. Mum wasn’t the least bit interested (she did not like the idea of her bags being wide open), so we moved on.

After Ngee Ann City we ended up at Paragon where we promptly headed to Longchamp. Mum wanted something light and casual that could be slung over the shoulder and narrowed it down to the Longchamp Le Pliage Tote Bag (see #4) in Taupe or Navy. Personally I preferred the Navy for her, and since she liked it I decided to get it for her. Wasn’t that expensive anyway, it retails for only SGD244. And for myself, I decided to get the Longchamp Le Pliage Clutch in Taupe for my SLGs. At SGD87 it wasn’t too expensive either.

But that’s not all. Remember that package I got from London on Wednesday? It’s actually the Anya Hindmarch Natural Canvas Tote (see #5) I featured last Saturday, and I thought maybe Mum would like it, which is how I ended up ordering the one for her. Thankfully she likes both her presents, so all in all it was a good day indeed.

Fendi Twins Tote

There are really 2 ways of looking at this. On one hand, it is so bloody expensive it ain’t worth paying for it, even if it is all-leather. Not a single monogram anywhere, besides the handle clasps with the distinct FF logo which are too small to be easily spotted anyway. What’s the point if the person across from you in the train can’t tell where it’s from? Sure it comes with its own removable shoulder strap and its size is large enough for A4 documents (Rihanna even used hers for groceries) but that’s besides the point isn’t it?

On the other hand, because it is free of any monogram patterns, logos or fleeting trend touches, it easily becomes a timeless classic that one can use for a long time to come. It also comes in wide variety of colours that both the girls and guys (there is one in Navy at Net-A-Porter for SGD2026 or so) will find appealing. The Fendi Twins Tote, which retails for SGD2680 in Singapore by the way. Yay? Or nay?
