Introducing the Fendi Color Fendista, a 23 cm by 14.5 cm calf leather bag that’s specially treated; the colours are vibrant and bright, yet the leather is still soft and supple.

Detailed on the front with Fendi’s iconic logo in the form of the bag buckle, the bag is otherwise clean and simple, the slightly ruched leather body finished out with a long gold-tone metal chain. The chain is removable by the way, which means you can also use it as a clutch if you so choose to.

Available in 5 lovely colours in Singapore, they include the classics; Black, Brown as well as bright hues like Fuchsia, Lemon and Red. Priced at SGD945 each, they are now available at Fendi boutiques island wide. For those of you in the region, they will also be available in Malaysia (MYR2350) and Thailand (THB22,300) as well.

Overwrought and dated were the first words that came to mind when I chanced upon images of the Fall-Winter 2011 Womens Fendi collection online, which isn’t entirely a bad thing if you love the good old days when handbags were ornate and ladylike, an added bonus if you’re a fan of the Mad Men.

Take the Fendi Striped Silvana Satchel (top left) for example. Beautifully laser-cut leather with vintage, almost art-deco motifs with the sides in canvas that you can hand carry or sling over the shoulder. Without a doubt, its elegance personified. I’m not sure how much it costs in Singapore, but pre-order it online at Saks and expect to pay around SGD2900 for it.

The clutches from the runway collection are no less ornate, each piece having 2 or 3 different types of exotic leathers on the front and sides, embellished with polished crystal stones and finished off with gold-tone hardware. No word yet on the prices of these pieces but expect to pay a pretty penny for them.

Before I sign off, if anyone out there was eyeing the rectangular felt totes with gorgeous striped lining, get them in Green or Red at SGD770 or so each. Online, at Saks. And yes, they do ship internationally.

One of Fendi’s hottest S/S11 bags, the Fendi Silvana, a generously-sized shoulder bag with a front flap that’s quirky yet elegant all at once. As seen on actress Sarah Jessica Parker, the Silvana is one of those bags you can dress up, or down, with.

Named after the 40s Italian screen beauty Silvana Mangano and inspired by a similar bag found in the archives of the five Fendi sisters, it comes in many other permutations besides the one shown above with the exotic croc flap that retails for SGD9780.

Featured prominently in the S/S11 ad campaign shot by none other than Karl Lagerfeld, the Silvana deserves the utmost respect and fittingly, treated like a lady. Pair with it with a worthy ensemble and it will work. Those with a penchant for general sloppiness and flip-flops need not apply.

Besides the one in exotic croc, there are full leather ones which come in different colour combinations (and materials) which start from SGD2500.

And with colour blocking and bold colours becoming permanent trends (like leopard prints that never seem to go away and somehow come back season after season), there is no better time to invest in a worthy companion of your own. Check them out at Fendi Marina Bay Sands or Ngee Ann City.

Love the Chanel WOC but looking for options that are more affordable? Many other brands have similar versions, ie. a purse with an accompanying chain, and one that I like from Dior is the Dior Libertine Wallet, modelled after the Libertine hobo. Expect the usual number of credit card slots and bill slots on the inside, along with a zipped compartment in the middle.

What I really like about this is the simple gold-tone CD logo on the front, which naturally matches the soft black leather so well. Retailing for SGD1250, you can check this out at Dior ION Orchard.

If Lady Dior is more your thing, than check out the matching Lady Dior Leather Pouch, which also comes with its own chain and dangling Dior charms. Not sure of its exact price, though it should come in more colours if the ones in Black or Burgundy is not your thing.

Another brand that makes pretty wallet-on-chain wallets is Fendi, and though I couldn’t find an image of the one I spotted yesterday at Marina Bay Sands, here’s another model to show you how it more or less looks. And if I’m correct, the chain is a) long that you can sling it across your body and b) can be removed as well, which is always a plus.

The ones I spotted were in coated canvas and cost only SGD765 a pop, which in my books is really pretty affordable.

Then it appeared in Fendi’s F/W10 ad campaign, along with this other satchel, and very soon all the bags in the Fendi Classico collection were unveiled.

A total of 6 different bags in all are available, the Classico collection a vintage ode to Italy in the 1960s. Trimmed with metal book corners in satin gold and exuding feminine elegance, you’ll also be able to personalise the accompanying luggage tag with your own initials.

So how do you tell the 6 bags apart? Well, by their numbers of course. For example, shown above from left to right we’ve got Classico #1 (an envelope clutch with a long shoulder strap), Classico #3 (a boxy satchel shopper with an additional front pocket) and Classico #2 (a classic messenger).

Other bags in the collection (from left to right) are Classico #6 (an evening bag with gold chain handles), Classico #4 (a horizontal tote) and my personal favourite, Classico #5 (a vertical tote). Besides being available in Fendi’s iconic Zucca canvas, the collection also comes in embossed calfskin.

See them all, along with the limited edition Classico #1 in blushing red ponyhair (only 20 pieces ever made), at Fendi’s new boutique at Marina Bay Sands. I’ve been to the store, and it’s definitely worth a closer look, especially since they have a pretty good selection of menswear and accessories just for the guys as well.

I’ve not blogged much about Fendi ever since the Peekaboo was launched, and since then, nothing much seemed to catch my eye. That, however, is set to change with the Spring-Summer 2011 Womens Fendi presentation that saw gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous bags making their presence felt on the runway.

Short of calling this collection the best of the lot for Milan, I’m going to say this. Giannini may have her Moroccan inspirations and Tomas his monochromatic moods, but Karl Lagerfeld and Silvia Venturini Fendi have created what I think will easily be 2011′s most editorially-shot pieces.

Bright jewel tones are the hallmark of this collection, with bags purposely matched with contrasting trim, creating pieces that are immediately eye-catching. Fendi wasn’t shy with the number of colours used on each bag either, with some having as many as 5 different colours on a single piece, yet somehow looking composed and complimentary.

From sling bags to shoulder bags to clutches and totes (I really want the tote for myself now), it’s almost impossible to find any fault with anything; everything from the hardware to the proportions looks just right. And if it gets any more perfect than this I’ll actually make an effort and camp in front of the Fendi press office just to see the samples when they eventually arrive.

In the African safari there is a particular term ‘the big 5′ which refers to 5 animals that are must-sees when you’re on such a trip. They comprise of the lion, leopard, black rhino, elephant and cape buffalo. Similarly in Milan, there are also 5 which I consider must-sees, and they include (in no particular order of merit of course), Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Fendi, Prada and Dolce & Gabbana. And while the first 4 were primarily picked because of their traditional emphasis on bags, Dolce & Gabbana was only picked due to their pure showmanship.

For the F/W10 season, Gucci is all ‘grown-up’, echoing 38-year-old Frida Giannini’s quip, ‘I’ve grown up. It’s more mature clothes for more mature women, because that’s what I am’. In this case, the bags are also all grown-up, serious, mature and luxurious. Simple, classically-styled pieces that include flat clutches, satchels and the odd sling bag in leather and exotic ostrich, embellished with a single large Gucci logo. Understated and elegant.

Over at Bottega Veneta it is all about the power lesbian; bold, intense and modern. The bags also seem to follow this ethos, functional, no-nonsense pieces that are practical with a touch of luxe. Shimmering leather, exotic skins and the trademark intrecciato leather round up the selection that should frankly appeal to women of all orientations.

Fendi, Fendi, Fendi. While the clothes are a mish-mash of minimal and military with loads of fur thrown in-between, the bags on the other hand will appeal to those hailing from Asia. The same formula of classic shapes and luxe materials is applied, this time in shades of gold, yellow and mustard, colours that are favoured by Asian royalty and rich alike. Stand-out pieces include the gorgeous sunflower-yellow Peekaboo with tiger/leopard/cheetah lining (it is the Year of the Tiger after all) and a classic satchel that comes with a customisable luggage tag.

‘The Stepford Wives’ meets ‘The Addams Family’ was what immediately came to mind when I watched the Fall-Winter 2010 Womens Prada presentation online at Prada’s site. Stark and stoic with nary an ounce of joy, everything was muted and toned down. The bags too, were similarly presented, what looked like dyed raffia woven into clutches and bags, dulled plaids made up framed bags with the odd patent leather horror trimmed with exotic alligator.

Last but not least, we’ve got Dolce & Gabbana who paid an emotional tribute to their skilled, white-coated women and men in their ateliers who craft their product. Bags too (the Miss Sicily in particular) were kept simple in a lush variety of finishes and skins in an attempt to show off the detailed workmanship that Dolce & Gabbana is capable off, and cementing their position as the Italian luxury house of choice.
Apparently it is from the Cruise 2010 Womens Fendi collection, and besides the green four-leaf clover design, they’ve also got totes, pouches and SLGs in other designs including a red ladybird and a blue fish (now since when was a blue fish lucky?).

Frankly I’m horrified, but because I’ve already been a major bitch this week with the marbles, I let you (my dear readers) do the talking. Love it? Or loathe it? Discuss…
